"Hua Hu, awesome, good boy!" Lang Shunjun, a keeper at the Shenshuping base of the China Giant Panda Conservation Research Center, called affectionately to bring the cut carrots and nest heads to the giant panda's pen.
Shenshuping base is surrounded by green mountains and water, located in Sichuan Wolong Nature Reserve. This is the home of giant pandas and the second hometown of Hong Kong girl Lang Shunyun. She has loved animals since she was a child, but when she grew up, she finally realized her childhood dream of working as a giant panda keeper in Ocean Park Hong Kong, responsible for taking care of the giant pandas donated to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by the central government.
In 2015, Lang Shunyun accompanied "Yingying" back to her hometown in Wolong, Sichuan Province for a "blind date", which was her first time to the mainland, and she had to stay for half a year. For Lang Shunjun, who has been living in Hong Kong, this trip to Sichuan is undoubtedly a "corner". She met her other half, Dong Chao, the head of the animal management department, at the Shenshuping base, and the two young hearts came together because of the panda. In 2018, Lang Shunyun married to Wolong, Sichuan and became a Sichuan daughter-in-law. Today, they also have a lovely son who forms a happy family of three.
Lang Shunyun shared with Sichuan Observer that as a staff member of the base breeding park, her daily work is very meticulous and tedious, preparing three meals a day for pandas every day, carefully taking care of their eating, drinking, and Lasa, and always paying attention to the physical health and psychological changes of pandas, so that they can breed and live in a healthy state. However, generally she does not come into contact with giant pandas in the circle, mainly feeding outside the circle.
She also told us that in fact, giant pandas are not as soft and cute as they imagined. It's hard to imagine, don't look at them round and fluffy, but the whole body is full of muscles, the hair is hard and prickly, after all, it is a wild animal, and when it is affected and stimulated by external sounds, giant pandas will also show a fierce side.
Even so, in Lang Shunjun's view, the job of taking care of giant pandas has given her infinite happiness, and she has also formed a deep friendship with them day and night. At the same time, the environment where Wolong looks up at the mountains, looks down at the water, the humid and oxygen-rich air, and the leisurely pace of life are the reasons for her perseverance, and the simplicity and purity of dealing with animals also fascinate her deeply.
