On May 11, the famous economist Chen Zhiwu and zhao Lingmin, a senior media person, held a live dialogue to discuss the topic of technological innovation, and this article is the third part of the live text:

Chen Zhiwu & Zhao Lingmin: Don't be too nervous about the "stuck neck" phenomenon, history will not end

Moderator: Our live broadcast today has come to an end, and I would like to ask the two teachers to make a summary speech, and the lady will give priority.

Zhao Lingmin: At the beginning, we talked about the "Needham problem", the reason why Needham raised this question is related to his preference for Chinese culture, the same is an ancient civilization, he did not ask the same questions about the Arab world or India, but only asked Chinese, we ourselves especially took this problem as a matter, everyone constantly discussed, expressed their own opinions, and even heartache. This shows that Chinese have high requirements for themselves.

Because of my work, I have gone to Southeast Asia over the years, to Africa, to many parts of the world, and I have found that I have constantly demanded progress, demanded that tomorrow must be better than today, and cannot tolerate my shortcomings, this attitude towards life does not exist in many other places, those places are like this today, yesterday is like this, tomorrow may not change much, and from the elite to the people feel very normal, there is nothing to call.

In recent years, there is a word called "card neck", the news says that in a certain field we are stuck neck, everyone is particularly nervous, constantly looking for reasons, saying that we have to hurry up and make up for this piece. In fact, today is the era of globalization, no country says that I do not seek people at all, the United States can not do it, it also has to ask for people in some aspects, it will also be stuck in the neck of others, we are the same, this is a driving force for economic globalization, because I have what I need, you can provide, there will be exchange.

So I think this problem we don't have to be too nervous, now we do have a relatively large gap in the field of chips, and the foreign exchange spent on chip imports every year is more than oil, which really needs to be done a lot of efforts and improvements. But we have also made great progress in many other aspects, just like I said earlier, don't be arrogant, don't feel that you are invincible in the world, or you have to look rationally and continue to work hard.

History is constantly moving forward, history will not end, today in the center of the stage, tomorrow may be squeezed down; the current on the fringes, may one day return to the spotlight. Everything is changing, everything in front of us is not eternal, I believe that things are man-made.

Chen Zhiwu & Zhao Lingmin: Don't be too nervous about the "stuck neck" phenomenon, history will not end

Chen Zhiwu: Just now Lingmin said very well, I will not repeat. I just want to share one thing for everyone to think about. A few months ago, I had a long video phone conversation with a professor at Brown University about some historical research.

The professor, a well-known economist in his seventies, has been thinking about a question for the past decade or so: Why is there such a big difference between China and some other countries 50 years ago? Go back 500 years, or is the difference? On closer study, he found that at least 60 percent of the factors that determine whether countries are rich or poor are already determined by the time they choose to enter settled farming.

That is, many things were determined thousands of years ago. Therefore, he suddenly realized that people are so sorry and anxious about what is happening in the moment, but in fact, many times it is superfluous, because in the long run, after the passage of time, those are not important at all.

The same may be true of life, many factors have long been doomed, can not be changed, the day after tomorrow's events can only play a part of the role. In the tedious life, it is still necessary to grasp yourself, take your own path, go according to your own interests, and continue to walk, which is more important.

Moderator: This concludes our live broadcast today, thank you very much to both teachers. In addition, Teacher Zhao Lingmin has a column dedicated to Singapore as a country, called "Singapore: The Stubbornness and Struggle of a Small Country", which combines Singapore's development path with the struggle of each ordinary individual, welcome everyone to understand the purchase, and she will also launch more other columns in the future.

Teacher Chen Zhiwu published a book some time ago, called "Chen Zhiwu Financial General Knowledge Class: Finance is Actually Very Simple", which is in-depth and simple to let everyone understand the basic general knowledge of finance, and everyone can pay attention to or buy this book if they need it.

Thank you very much! Good bye.

Chen Zhiwu: Thank you, goodbye.

Zhao Lingmin: Thank you host, thank you Teacher Chen, goodbye.
