Wang Jianying was born in Taicang, Jiangsu Province in 1921, and studied and graduated from the Department of Political Science and Economics of Nanjing Central University and the Institute of History of Yenching University. He studied historical places and re-examined evidence, and was a historical geographer and expert in Ming and Qing dynasty history.

In the summer of 1969, Comrade Wang Jianying was sent to the "May Seven" cadre school in Fengyang, Anhui Province, to search and inspect the ruins of the Ming and Zhongdu capitals. Through exploration, the palace stone carved plates, glazed tiles and city bricks were collected, and the analysis and research were carried out, and the veil of the history of the Ming and Zhongdu was lifted, and its historical evolution, design planning, architectural carving art and the changes of buildings were clarified.

Wang Jianying wrote the "Investigation Report on the Ruins of the Ming and Central Capitals" and wrote the monograph "The Examination of the Ming and Central Capitals". Based on the relics of the ruins and the examination of documents, the book restores the historical appearance of the Ming and Zhongdu, so that the Ming and Zhongdu, which have been forgotten for more than 600 years, reappear in front of the world.
