Faka Hill Hero Battalion

Mount Faka is a boundary mountain that straddles the southern edge of Shangshi Town, Pingxiang City, Guangxi Province, China and a certain place in Vietnam, including 5 highlands, consisting of 5 highlands from northwest to southeast, and its main peak is No. 3 highland, with an altitude of 511.3 meters.

Before the Sino-Vietnamese self-defense counterattack in 1979, the No. 26 national boundary monument of the traditional border between China and Vietnam was erected on the main peak, which was an important "riding line" on the Sino-Vietnamese border, and China and Vietnam were "one and a half", with Highlands No. 1 and No. 2 in the north belonging to China, and Highlands No. 4 and No. 5 in the south belonging to Vietnam.

After Operation Pulling Point in 1981, China controlled all five highlands from south to north. Subsequent battles focused on Heights 3 and Heights 4 and 5 to the south.

In 2006, the newly surveyed State Boundary Marker 1156 was re-erected on Height 3. Southern Highlands No. 4 and No. 5 were also officially "returned" to Vietnam. The entire land boundary demarcation work between China and Vietnam lasted for 18 years, and the monument was completed before the Spring Festival in 2009.

Located on the edge of the Shangshi area of Ningming County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, Mount Faka is 500 meters above sea level and consists of three highlands with an area of more than 10,000 square meters. After the Vietnamese army invaded Phaka Mountain, it took advantage of its favorable terrain and often attacked the Chinese border military and civilians. On May 5, 1981, the Guangxi border troops of the Chinese People's Liberation Army launched a counterattack and recovered Faka Mountain, and immediately transferred to the operation to defend Faka Mountain. On the same day, nearly 100 Vietnamese troops counterattacked Phaka Mountain under the cover of artillery fire. The 4th Company of the 2nd Battalion of a certain unit of the Guangxi border defense force returned fire, and the Vietnamese troops retreated in a hurry. At dusk on the 10th, the Vietnamese fired about 2,000 shells at Phaka Mountain, and then launched an attack with the strength of one reinforced company, occupying the forward position of the 4th Company.

The 4th Company, with the cooperation of friendly neighboring detachments, carried out a counterattack and recaptured the forward position. On the morning of the 16th, the Vietnamese army bombarded Phaka Mountain with heavy artillery fire, and launched an attack in three routes with the strength of one regiment. The 5th Company, which replaced the 4th Company in holding its position, faced 10 times its own Vietnamese troops and fought tenaciously for 2 hours, but in the end, because it was outnumbered, some positions were lost, and the situation was very critical. At this time, the 6th Company at the foot of the mountain took the initiative to reinforce, ascended the main position of Phaka Mountain, bravely repulsed the Vietnamese army, recaptured the lost position, and then repelled 7 consecutive attacks of the Vietnamese army, restoring the defensive posture of Phaka Mountain. On the 19th and 7 June , the Vietnamese army prepared about one battalion to attack Khat Hill and the heights on both sides, both of which were repulsed. So far, the Vietnamese army failed to attack Phaka Mountain five times. The 2nd Battalion of a certain Guangxi Border Defense Force performed well in the battle to defend Faka Mountain and was awarded the title of 'Faka Mountain Hero Battalion' by the Central Military Commission.

The Reconquest of Mount Faka lasted 57 days from 6 a.m. on May 5 to June 30, 1981. This was a comprehensive battle that went through five forms: pulling out strongholds, defending key points, fighting counterattacks, artillery battles, and counter-agent raids. The Vietnamese army on the opposite side successively put in one infantry regiment and two battalions, six artillery battalions and three companies, a tank battalion of the 337th Division, the first and second battalions of the 198 Special Service Regiment, and two battalions of the 514th Engineer Brigade. There are more than 100 guns of various doors. The Vietnamese army poured more than 20,000 shells on the Fakha Hill area with tanks, rocket launchers, 160mm mortars and other artillery. The entire Faka Hill position was turned up several feet deep in loose soil, and a handful of soil was just a few pieces of shrapnel.

The Vietnamese army also adopted strong attacks, sneak attacks and other means, with the strength of one company, one battalion and even a reinforced regiment, and successively counterattacked our army dozens of times. On May 10, May 16, May 19, and June 7, the Vietnamese army launched a large-scale counterattack against our army. The infantry and artillery units of our army participating in the battle closely cooperated and desperately held the position. During the 57 days of fighting, a total of 705 Vietnamese soldiers were killed, 513 wounded, 135 guns of various kinds were destroyed, two tanks were damaged, 14 vehicles were destroyed, and a batch of infantry weapons, ammunition and other combat materials were captured.

In order to cooperate with the battle to recapture Faka Mountain, before the war, the 9th Regiment of the 3rd Border Defense Division of the Guangxi Military Region stationed in Ningming County, Guangxi, and the 123rd Division of the 41st Army stationed in Guixian (present-day Guigang City) were covertly transferred to the area around Faka Mountain. At the same time, the 598th Regiment of the 131st Division was transferred to participate in combat operations against Mount Faka. The second battalion of the Ninth Regiment of the 3rd Frontier Division of the Guangxi Military Region was responsible for the main attack on Fakashan and the subsequent defensive tasks, of which 179 newly recruited soldiers took part in the battle. Before the war, the battalion carried out political and ideological mobilization of subordinate units. The party committee of the battalion and the party branches of each company wrote a letter of determination to the party committee of the division and regiment. Cadres and soldiers wrote a total of 1,582 petitions and resolutions for war. Many comrades even bit their fingers and wrote a blood book, in which Wan Mianxiang, deputy squad leader of the third squad of the Sixth Company, wrote: "Born to fight for the party, die and survive the position." Many of them gave their young lives in battle and fulfilled their vows of youth with blood!

At 6 a.m. on 5 May 1981, after our army's shaking artillery fire was completed, the 4th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 9th Regiment of the 3rd Frontier Division of the Guangxi Military Region, led by company commander Luo Guozhu, took the lead and launched an attack on the Vietnamese positions on Phaka Mountain. Li Huaiqiong, deputy squad leader of the second squad of the fourth company, was responsible for opening up the passage, rushed to the front, was the first to pull the blaster, and together with the whole squad, it took only nine minutes to sweep away the three-meter-wide and hundred-meter-long thunder barrier, opening the passage for the troops. At this time, the Vietnamese troops entrenched in positions 4 and 5 desperately returned fire, and dense machine-gun fire swept through our attacking troops in a whirlwind. Immediately, the attacking forces were pressed down.

In an emergency, a platoon commander Zhou Kun Sheng quickly organized firepower, suppressed the Vietnamese fire point, and at the same time commanded the demolition team to carry out the blasting, immediately destroying two dark bunkers, an A-type fortification and a cover ditch of the Vietnamese army. The leader of the first squad, Zeng Guang, took advantage of the effect of the explosion and led the whole squad to pounce on it from both sides and kill all the Vietnamese troops on positions 4 and 5. Li Huaiqiong, deputy squad leader of the second squad of the fourth company, rushed fiercely, and was the first to rush to the top of Faka Mountain and occupy the No. 3 position. After 55 minutes, all four companies conquered and occupied Mount Faka, and the battle was over, and the fourth company immediately moved to the defensive. In this battle, a total of 9 Vietnamese soldiers were killed and 14 wounded (another version is that 38 Vietnamese soldiers were killed).

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

After the battle, in order to facilitate the organization of defense, the mines laid by the Vietnamese army in front of the position must be cleared. Mo Jinhua, a soldier of the engineering squad, took the initiative to take on the task of demining. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., after nearly seven hours of continuous combat, one person cleared 51 mines, cleared a minefield area of more than 300 meters and a width of more than 30 meters. In order to prevent the Vietnamese army from counterattacking, Mo Jinhua and the rest of the class planted 600 mines in the front of the position in the evening. In the subsequent demining mission, Comrade Mo Jinhua was killed by the artillery fire of the Vietnamese army.

On 10 May 1981, Vietnamese troops fired more than 2,000 shells, including 160-mm mortars using extended fuses, onto the tiny Phaka Mountain. The shells penetrated more than two meters into the soil layer before exploding, and the earth-wood, reinforced concrete components, steel bars and trough-shaped steel plate fortifications on the position were successively destroyed by enemy artillery fire and trenches were blown flat. In the morning, the Vietnamese army, under the cover of heavy artillery and tanks, with the strength of a reinforced company, attacked our position in three ways. The cadres and soldiers of the fourth company who held the position immediately began a fierce battle with the Vietnamese army. At about 9 o'clock, a Vietnamese shell landed more than one meter next to the anti-gun hole where instructor Deng Minh Chung was squatting and exploded, and Deng Minh Trung's head and chest were shocked, and he immediately fell unconscious. At about 17:55 p.m., the Vietnamese artillery fire became more and more fierce, and the Vietnamese troops attacking in three ways combined to charge the No. 5 position, and several Vietnamese troops had rushed to our No. 5 position, by which time Deng Minh Trung had been in a coma for several hours.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

A few soldiers beside him saw that the situation was critical, shook him a few times, and when he vaguely heard the soldiers say that the enemy had counterattacked position No. 5, he gritted his teeth and, with tenacious perseverance, climbed until the top of position No. 3, commanded the battle while taking up submachine guns and swept at the Vietnamese troops at position No. 5! When a part of the Vietnamese troops rushed to the front of our No. 5 position, the leader of the fifth squad, Shu Jincai, led the whole squad to calmly respond to the battle, annihilated the enemy in close combat, and he destroyed two Vietnamese troops with two point shots. At this time, Li Huaiqiong, deputy squad leader of the second squad, led a group to reinforce the fifth squad to fight, and when he just entered the trench on the left side of position No. 5, he saw four Vietnamese troops crawling towards our position, one of the Vietnamese soldiers aimed at our army A soldier was about to shoot. The other three Vietnamese soldiers saw that the situation was not good, and they fled for their lives in panic, and he rushed to the front of our trench with one arrow, and then shot another enemy again. Late at night, the Vietnamese army made another sneak attack on our Phaka Mountain with a platoon. When the fourth company lowered the Vietnamese troops to about 20 meters, they opened fire in unison, killing 14 Vietnamese soldiers on the spot.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

On the same day, the fourth company of cooking squads, in order to ensure the food of the position, ignored the strict sealing of the Vietnamese artillery fire, and insisted on sending them forward and transporting them later. After Chen Qingqiang, the chief of the department, was wounded in the head, he still insisted on leading the cooking squad through several artillery blockades to rush the wounded to the position, and promptly transported the 21 wounded to the ambulance center. Liao Laocheng, the deputy head of the cooking class, when delivering food that day, he walked in the front and took the lead to rush forward; The soldier Dai Quantao, whose iron bucket for picking food and delivering vegetables was blown seven holes by a shell, wounded in his hand, insisted on delivering food to the position. When he returned, he braved Vietnamese artillery fire to carry the wounded to the position. On May 10, the Vietnamese organized three counterattacks, all of which were repulsed by four companies, and 14 Vietnamese were killed. (Another version is: The two sides fought fiercely for 48 minutes, killing 30 Vietnamese soldiers and wounding 80) In this battle, the fourth company was awarded a collective first-class merit and was awarded a pennant of "attacking like a tiger and defending like Mount Tai" awarded by its superiors.

In the early morning of May 16, 1981, the Vietnamese army poured nearly 1,000 shells on our position, destroying our fortifications, and then the Vietnamese army, with the strength of one regiment, under the cover of heavy artillery, counterattacked our position in multiple ways, in multiple directions and in multiple echelons.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

At position No. 5, the seventh squad of the fifth company, which was holding the No. 5 position at the forefront of Phaka Mountain, under the leadership of platoon leader Yin Fengguang, fought fiercely with the Vietnamese army! When the squad leader Wen Cheng Wing was only fifteen meters away from the front of the position, the end submachine gun suddenly swept towards the Vietnamese army, and several Vietnamese troops in front were immediately killed; The veteran soldier Liu Xinyun also jumped into the trench and swept the Vietnamese army with machine guns, beating the Vietnamese army into pieces and falling down in pieces, fighting fiercely for more than 20 minutes, killing the Vietnamese army all over the field, and the first wave of Vietnamese troops was killed and wounded in large numbers and lost their combat effectiveness; But then the Vietnamese artillery fire became more intense, and more Vietnamese troops once again rushed to position five. In an almost crazy counterattack, all the bullets and grenades of the seventh class were fired! With all the bullets running out, the food running out, and no way out, the seventh squad faced several times the Vietnamese army with bayonets and engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the Vietnamese troops who attacked the position! The two sides immediately scuffled together.

With no way back, the seventh class also went crazy: a bayonet stabbed to death a Vietnamese soldier, and then stabbed to death by more swarming Vietnamese troops! Soldiers from both sides fought like wild beasts in this small place with flesh and blood! Fought bloodily for more than an hour, killing more than 40 Vietnamese troops, until finally all heroically sacrificed! With blood and life, the determination to swear and die together with the position has been realized! The smoke of gunfire dispersed, and the bodies of the fallen soldiers on both sides were laid on the No. 5 position.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

At position four, the ninth class faced the same situation as the seventh class: the dense Vietnamese army rushed to the position! The leader of the ninth squad, Duan Yusheng, was seriously injured and still endured severe pain, and tenaciously insisted on fighting until he was dying! The attacking Vietnamese army found the dying ninth squad leader, and immediately outflanked him in multiple directions at the same time, and the ninth squad leader Duan Yusheng resolutely pulled the grenade when the Vietnamese army approached, and died with the Vietnamese army, lying next to his broken body seven Vietnamese corpses! After more than an hour of fierce fighting, only the old soldier Yuan Huangao was left, and the rest were all killed! Yuan Huangao also opened up, constantly throwing grenades one by one at the Vietnamese army, and then using the machine gun to sweep at the Vietnamese army. Immediately, a dozen Vietnamese troops fell to the front of the position, and were immediately wounded by Vietnamese fire. Finally, the bullets and grenades were gone, and he fought the Vietnamese soldiers with stones until he was knocked unconscious by the Vietnamese soldiers and rolled into a ravine.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

At position No. 3, Xu Van Yong, deputy squad leader of the eighth squad, was wounded in the head and bloodied, he ignored all this, regarded death as if it were home, took up a submachine gun, jumped out of the trench and bravely charged at the Vietnamese army, and still maintained a heroic posture of shooting at the Vietnamese army when he finally died heroically; Cai Yaqing, a veteran soldier of the sixth class, was wounded in many places, and the comrades in the squad wanted to carry him to the anti-artillery hole to hide, but he resolutely refused, he could not stand up, could not sit still, lay in the trench to help the comrades load the bullets, twist the grenade cover. When the bullets and grenades were all gone, he braved danger several times to climb to the corpses of the Vietnamese army to retrieve the grenades and bullets, and with tenacious perseverance, he persevered to the end.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

The new soldier Le Youdong, after entering the position, he was seriously ill and did not eat for two days, when the Vietnamese army frantically counterattacked, he picked up a machine gun and swept the Vietnamese army, when he was seriously wounded and continued to fight, soon the bullets and grenades were gone, at this time a Vietnamese soldier rushed towards him, he used all his strength, jumped up, crushed the enemy to the ground, stuck the Vietnamese soldier's throat with both hands, and strangled the Vietnamese soldier alive. After his sacrifice, his body was still pressed against the enemy. After more than an hour of bloody fighting with the enemy in the fifth company and three platoons guarding the position, the company commander and deputy company commander were all seriously wounded, the instructors were killed, and the fourth and fifth positions were lost one after another! Only 7 people remained in position No. 3 struggling to support! In this battle, all the comrades of the third platoon and the second platoon of the fifth company fought hard and tenaciously under the condition that the enemy was outnumbered, killing a total of 110 Vietnamese troops.

After that, the artillery fire of the Vietnamese army became more and more fierce, and the battalion headquarters commanded behind called to the fifth company like crazy, but the communication equipment on the position was all damaged by artillery fire, and there was no response from the fifth company in the walkie-talkie!

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

Liang Tianhui, commander of the sixth company, heard the eager voice of the battalion commander calling the fifth company from the walkie-talkie, and knew that the situation of the fifth company was critical, so he took the initiative to request reinforcements from the battalion commander. He and his deputy instructor, Tran Wei Lin, immediately led the troops through the Vietnamese artillery blockade and headed straight for Phaka Mountain. When they arrived at position No. 3, they saw the Vietnamese troops rushing straight from the front, left and right sides, and the situation was very critical. Liang Tianhui quickly adjusted the strength and reinforcements holding the position, commanded the remaining personnel to concentrate fire to suppress the enemy, and at the same time called for artillery to suppress the front of the position! Immediately, our artillery fire flowered in the Vietnamese crowd on the left and right sides of position No. 3 and two or three meters from the front, and the attacking Vietnamese troops could not dodge, and in an instant, flesh and blood flew everywhere, and the broken arm and stubble exploded all over the sky. Repelled the enemy who rushed to the front of the position and on both sides. Obviously, the commander of the Vietnamese army also red-eyed, and after losing a large number of soldiers, with the help of artillery fire, he launched several attacks on the No. 3 Heights several times in succession, and the battle was very fierce. After twenty minutes of fierce fighting, there were only six people left in the platoon, and the deputy instructor was shot and killed.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

In a critical moment, Liang Tianhui ran from this trench to that trench, encouraging the soldiers to fight. Finally, it withstood the counterattack of the Vietnamese army and consolidated position No. 3. After the No. 3 position was consolidated, Liang Tianhui wanted to take the opportunity to retake the No. 4 and No. 5 positions in one go. Positions No. 4 and No. 5 are the two legs of Mount Faka, and position No. 3 is the main body, and positions No. 4 and No. 5 cannot be recaptured, and position No. 3 is difficult to hold. So Liang Tianhui immediately organized a reinforcement squad to launch a counterattack against the Vietnamese troops who had occupied position No. 4, requesting artillery fire to attack position No. 4, while ordering the 60th artillery squad and the cooking squad to hold position No. 3, and the rest of the personnel were ready to counterattack position No. 4 and No. 5.

After our artillery fire extended, the first echelon charged, and the Vietnamese army discovered this intention, and immediately blocked and intercepted it with a large amount of artillery fire, and the intention to recover positions 4 and 5 was blocked. At this time, the tenacious combat effectiveness of the Vietnamese army was also reflected: the number of Vietnamese troops on the No. 4 position on the surface was ploughed by artillery fire, and they suffered heavy casualties under the rapid attack of our artillery, but the remaining Vietnamese army still organized to resist stubbornly against the first echelon of our attack, and the dense firepower caused greater casualties in the first offensive echelon! Immediately lost the ability to fight.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

In order to boost morale, Liang Tianhui immediately led the second echelon, braved the bullets of the Vietnamese army to desperately retake position No. 4; After the Vietnamese troops on position No. 5 saw the No. 4 position was recaptured by us, they immediately organized more than a platoon of troops to reinforce the No. 4 position, Liang Tianhui shouted for artillery for fire support, but the Vietnamese army was too close to the No. 4 position, for fear of accidentally injuring our side only with small and medium-caliber artillery to suppress the attacking Vietnamese army, weak firepower could not suppress the offensive of the Vietnamese army at all, Liang Tianhui once again urgently shouted, demanding that large-caliber artillery fire be used to suppress it closely! In an instant, most of the Vietnamese army was engulfed in a densely covered group of bombs. Taking advantage of the situation, the personnel on our position launched another courageous attack on position No. 5. Most of the Vietnamese personnel in the position had been killed and wounded, and the follow-up echelon did not have many personnel to deploy reinforcements, and the remaining Vietnamese troops could no longer support and could only abandon the occupied positions and retreat. At 19:52 I regained all the positions I had lost.

At night, the Vietnamese army again organized a small number of troops to carry out a sneak attack on positions 3, 4 and 5, but they were defeated again.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

In the battle of holding No. 3 and recovering positions No. 4 and No. 5, the heroic deeds of the soldiers of the sixth company were singing and weeping. The first squad leader, Liu Taiqiu, led the class to charge the No. 4 position, he always rushed to the front, and when the Vietnamese shells injured both legs and suffered multiple wounds in his body, he still commanded the whole class to fight and covered the squad with firepower. Xie Xianwan, the leader of the third squad, led the whole squad to rush and kill, and when three people were killed and three were seriously injured in the class, and only two people remained, he still insisted on the position, and rushed to the No. 5 position together with the third platoon of the company. The second squad leader, Liang Anlong, when the Vietnamese troops swarmed towards the third position, calmly and tenaciously fought, fighting until the last breath of his life.

During the battle, the soldier Ou Wugui was injured by a grenade on six fingers, and after bandaging, he insisted on staying in the position and continued to press the bullet, and also clamped the grenade with both palms, and used his teeth to bite and unscrew the bomb covers one by one, and put them next to his comrades. Xiao Jiacai, a new soldier of the 60th mortar squad, with only one person left in the squad, under the command of the platoon commander, one person loaded and fired more than 50 shells, which blew up the flesh and blood of the Vietnamese troops. When the gun mount was damaged, he used his submachine gun to strafe the Vietnamese troops, and was awarded a second-class merit. Chen Jianguo, platoon commander of the machine gun company, led three heavy machine gunners to hold on to position No. 4 during the fierce fighting in the past few days, and repelled the enemy's counterattacks four times in a row.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

Later, a shell exploded on the anti-gun hole not far from him, and three boxes of ammunition in the hole detonated at the same time, causing multiple burns to his face, hands and feet. At this moment, another platoon of Vietnamese troops rushed towards our position, and he was the only one who could persist in fighting in the front of the position; he calmly responded to the battle, firing at the Vietnamese troops with light machine guns and submachine guns, and throwing grenades at the Vietnamese troops at the next, suppressing the attacking Vietnamese troops and not daring to advance. After the bullets and grenades were fired, a Vietnamese soldier took advantage of the situation to climb to the front of the trench, and after Chen Jianguo found it, he endured the severe pain and pounced, pressed the Vietnamese soldier's neck with his knee, and strangled him alive! Immediately after that, three more Vietnamese soldiers climbed up, and he picked up a submachine gun from the martyr's side and fired three points in a row, killing all three Vietnamese soldiers. In the end, due to lack of physical strength, he fainted in a pool of blood, and was later rescued by reinforcements.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

Yang Qishi, the leader of the ninth squad, personally operated a crane gun when the Vietnamese army frantically counterattacked, and one point shot eliminated a Vietnamese soldier who rushed to position No. 5. After discovering this, the Vietnamese troops immediately concentrated their heavy firearms with artillery fire and blocked the top and sides of position No. 5 with firepower. Finally, he was hit by a shell and died heroically. Deputy squad leader Liu Shaohua immediately commanded the battle on behalf of the squad leader, and after being seriously wounded, he still insisted on fighting without getting out of the line of fire. Seventeen comrades of the platoon died heroically, four were wounded, and four of the five heavy machine guns were destroyed by Vietnamese artillery. After the squad leader Wei Tairian was blown up in his squad, he picked up the martyr's weapon to fight the Vietnamese army, and after being wounded, he endured the pain, grabbed a submachine gun and jumped out of the trench to strafe the Vietnamese army, and then was shot and injured again, and fell unconscious. The Vietnamese troops swarmed up, and he climbed up the position with tenacious perseverance, fought hand-to-hand with the Vietnamese army, and finally died heroically. Walk-talker Hu Anh Won, when the Vietnamese captured positions 4 and 5 on May 16 and were counterattacking position 3, he called for artillery to come closer to us.

After the battle, when cleaning up the battlefield, I found many heroic and heroic scenes: the hillside in front of our army was full of corpses. Some martyrs of our army bit the shoulders of the Vietnamese army with their teeth, some martyrs maintained a posture of climbing forward, and some scuffled with the Vietnamese army, not letting go; Some held daggers and plunged them into the chests of Vietnamese soldiers, while others pulled grenades in the crowd of Vietnamese troops.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

On this day alone, the Vietnamese army laid 257 corpses on our position! (There is another version: this battle killed more than 500 Vietnamese troops); And the fifth company of our army also paid 29 killed, the sixth company lost 26 killed, and the fourth company that was withdrawn as a reserve in advance lost 4 people!

In the early morning of May 19, 1981, the Vietnamese attacked with another battalion under the cover of artillery. Our army once again fought back desperately, and with the coordination of infantry and artillery, killed more than 100 Vietnamese troops and repelled the counterattack of the Vietnamese army.

On June 7, 1981, the Vietnamese army fired thousands of shells and again attacked Phaka Mountain and its flanking heights with a force of about 1 battalion, and this time the Vietnamese offensive was again dismantled. After the battle, the Vietnamese troops on the opposite side seemed to have been greatly damaged, and the troops were in urgent need of repair, so the battlefield was basically silent for several days.

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

From May 5 to June 7, 81, the Vietnamese army fought five large-scale battles in the Phaka Hill area, and suffered heavy casualties in the battles of May 10 and May 16, the highest rank of Vietnamese dead was Captain Battalion Commander Nguyen Quang Shi.

In the first battle of Faka Mountain, the losses of the 9th Regiment of the 3rd Frontier Division of the Guangxi Military Region greatly exceeded expectations, with a total of 78 killed (there is a list of 154 martyrs in the Guangxi Martyrs' Cemetery, but the names of the dead of the 2nd Battalion of the 9th Regiment in the text were not found), and 106 were wounded. Most of the dead were soldiers or junior officers between the ages of 18 and 25, mainly from Liangguang, Lianghu, Guizhou and Henan, and most of the martyrs were buried in Ningming County, Guangxi.

On December 31, 2008, the boundary survey between China and Vietnam was completed, and the Chinese side returned part of the control of Phaka Mountain, the No. 1 and No. 2 heights of Phaka Mountain were controlled by the Chinese side, the No. 4 and No. 5 positions extended to the south of Phaka Mountain were returned to Vietnam, and the main peak of Phaka Mountain, that is, No. 3 Height, "one country and a half" (the newly surveyed boundary marker No. 1156 was re-erected on No. 3 Heights in 2006, and the Sino-Vietnamese boundary survey work lasted for 18 years).

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

Before the Spring Festival in 2009, the field monument was completed, and the field work of boundary demarcation between China and Vietnam was completed. Subsequently, the signing stage of internal documents such as protocols and drawings begins.

On November 18, 2009, after 18 years of negotiations and boundary demarcation, representatives of China and Vietnam signed in Beijing three documents: the Protocol on the Demarcation of the Land Boundary between China and Vietnam and its accompanying maps, the Agreement on the China-Vietnam Land Boundary Management System, and the Agreement on the China-Vietnam Land Border Ports and Their Management System. So far, except for the last "difficult bone" Sino-Vietnamese border, the negotiation and survey of China's land border is close to completion

Faka Hill Hero Battalion

On September 21, 1981, the 2nd Frontier Battalion, which had distinguished its achievements, was awarded the title of "Faka Mountain Hero Battalion", while the Guangzhou Military Region awarded the title of "Steadfast Hero Company" of the 5th Company of the battalion, the title of "Heroic Platoon Capable of Attacking and Defending Heroes" of the 4th Company and 1st Platoon, and the title of "Assault Hero Platoon" of the 6th Company and 1st Platoon, with a total of 286 cadres and soldiers in the battalion making meritorious contributions.
