Every summer, many Hong Kong people who love the sea visit the beautiful coastal waters for snorkeling. In fact, enjoying snorkeling activities is not the patent of athletes, and there are many shallow water areas in Hong Kong that are very suitable for beginners to experience snorkeling. One of the snorkeling spots, Bridge Tsui Chau is accessed by Street Ferry from Sai Kung Pier, a 15-minute boat ride. Stretching in a north-south direction, this 2,500-metre-long narrow island boasts natural coastal beaches, magnificent geological wonders and stunning scenery surrounded by mountains and reefs. The underwater world along the coast is equally dazzling, with clear turquoise waters against a backdrop of coral reefs and colourful marine life.

Bridge Tsui Chau
There are two beaches in Qiao Tsui Chau, Qiao Tsui Beach extends from north to west, while Xiamen Bay Beach is located on the south side of the island. Although there is a snack bar at Qiao Tsui Beach that serves bottled water, soft drinks, beer, etc., it is recommended that you bring your own lunch and snacks. This half-sand, half-rocky beach, with its blue sea and blue sky, is perfect for swimming or sunbathing. You can also board the hiking trail that connects Qiao Tsui Beach to Xiamen Bay Beach, which is about two kilometres long and has beautiful scenery along the way. The first section of the trail is shaded by green trees, and then the view gradually opens up, allowing you to see the blue sea, rock wonders, verdant mountains and invincible natural scenery in the distance. The observation deck here even has a selfie artifact, allowing you to easily punch in the selfie and take a beautiful picture.
To protect corals and other marine life, a "No Mooring Area" has been set up in the western part of Qiao Tsui Chau to remind boat drivers to avoid anchoring under this area and avoid driving into nearby shallow water coral areas. Snorkelers should also check the seabed environment before launching to avoid stepping on the corals. Beginners should stay away from coral areas and never stand or rest on corals, or touch anything with their fins and stir up seabed deposits. Please visit the website of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for more information on marine conservation.
Even island sandbars
Qiao Tsui Chau has a unique landscape, that is, at low tide, at the western end of the island, there will be a natural sand and gravel embankment connecting qiaotou island - Liandao Sandbar. You can stroll along this "narrow promenade" in the middle of the sea and come to the small lighthouse at the end. Along the shore are scattered with boulders with cracked surfaces that look like "pineapple buns", and the cute shape makes you can't help but take pictures and punch cards. The area south of the sandbank is a snorkeling paradise. Venture into the underwater world and see a wide variety of corals, including hermitage for reef fish, crabs and sea urchins, corrugated peony corals, flat-headed corals in the shape of a round tower, and swaying gyro corals. As it is shallow, be careful not to step on fragile corals. A wide variety of fish swim through the corals, including striped sergeant fish, flocks of yellow-tailed light gills, colorful rump fish and brightly coloured butterfly fish. If you're lucky, you might even see the orange-white striped clownfish in the anime Finding Nemo. When swimming near sand, watch out for the fierce-looking squid and the flattened swallow stingray, as they like to be half-buried in the sand and reef, which can sometimes be frightening.
While admiring the beauty and biodiversity of the ocean, please love and respect the marine environment, abide by the "Marine Care Code", do not harm or harass marine life, never touch or stand on coral, never dig up sand and gravel, never lift coastal stones, and never pick up any living or dead marine life. Care should be taken when snorkeling to avoid potentially dangerous marine life. Please visit the website of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for marine care codes and the dangerous marine life in Hong Kong.
