When I learned that Slam Dunk was going to make a movie, my first reaction was: this is a rumor.
However, this turned out to be true, then I only have one question: Lao Jing, what are you doing? From what I know about him, it's not for any particular reason that he wouldn't do it. So, I looked through a few film reviews and found that it was polarized. Say yes, because it is the author's blessing, the tension of the picture and the combination of the soundtrack are wonderful. It's not good to say, many film reviews have said, it's nothing more than Miyagi, Haruko is not good, there is no TV version of the song, some classic clips have been deleted, and so on.
Let me start with my opinion: if Inoue Yuhiko wants to sell feelings, then he can copy manga and use TV songs, just do so, the public absolutely loudly applauds, and easily make a lot of money. Fame and fortune, why not?
But he didn't. Speaking of which, I can't help but think, yes, this is the maverick, self-seeking Yuhiko Inoue.
In fact, as long as you have seen some friends who have interviewed about him, you will know that this person who draws hot blood youth is simply a very paranoid and extremely melancholic perfectionist who is not hot blood at all. This is why, despite the opposition of the publishing house, he resolutely decided to end the manga after drawing the battle of the mountain king. After achieving financial freedom, he will draw "Real", which is more realistic about the theme of disabled basketball, and "Wanderer", which is the life of Miyamoto Musashi, a generation of swordsmen. Because he has a higher pursuit.
So I suspect that this is completely a publicity party for the box office, with a big fanfare to promote this less sentimental film with the theme of youth. After watching Inoue's interview, my suspicions were confirmed. If he copied the original, he would not have filmed it at all. The picture performance of "three turns two" is recognized by him, although the technology is limited. Because of the change in concepts caused by age, he now wants to use Miyagi as the protagonist to make up for his original weak plot. Obviously, this is a work in which the author expresses more personally, that is, it does not cater to the public.
This choice cannot be said to be wrong, but it is indeed risky. I understand Inoue's mood for wanting to express his current thoughts. But after all, he is a newcomer to the movie, and there is no problem with the alternating expression of competitions and memories, but the rhythm is not in place, so it looks very screwed.
I understand Yuhiko Inoue, he is such a person. And those audiences who want feelings, I also understand them. In this way, it is not with thin mud, but as long as you know the author, you can accept such a film that is different from expectations. The manga school is more disappointed that the protagonist is not Sakuragi, because the original work, especially the Sanno chapter, is mainly a plot that unfolds under his drive. The animation school, on the other hand, does not have to worry about a TV version of the song. In fact, in "Real", Inoue complained about the animated version, the court is outrageously large, and it can run for three minutes. The unreasonable design and the pace were too protracted, and Inoue withdrew the copyright before the animation had even hit the national competition.
So, this is Yuhiko Inoue's slam dunk. He conveyed his philosophy at the end of the comic that youth has regrets. It is not the result that is important, but the process.
