Are there any poison lizards?

Nowadays, many people like to keep lizards as pets, on the one hand, because most lizards are relatively small and look much cuter than snakes, and on the other hand, because many of them are non-toxic, so they are relatively safe. So are all lizards non-toxic? The answer is no.

In fact, there are currently two species of poisonous lizards in the world, the Mexican poison lizard and the American poison lizard. The former has 4 subspecies, with a total length of more than half a meter, and the largest can reach 1 meter; the latter has 2 subspecies, the total length is generally 20 or 30 cm, and the larger can reach half a meter. The poison lizard has a large head, a rounded snout, a large and sturdy body, is slow to move, prefers to inhabit arid environments, and is an oviparous animal. The body surface is covered by small but not overlapping scales, and the body color is dark, with yellow or pink markings. They are carnivores, eating rats, insects or bird eggs. Their toxins are often used to hunt and defend against predators, with their poisonous fangs located on the third tooth behind the lower jaw. Unlike venomous snakes, poisonous lizards use their poisonous fangs to constantly grind their teeth on their prey when hunting, and then inject venom directly into the wound through the alveoli. Once bitten by a poison lizard, people often feel nauseous, vomiting or fever.

In addition, on the indonesian islands is the largest and oldest surviving lizard, the Komodo dragon (monitor lizard), which can reach a maximum length of 3.5 meters and weigh more than 100 kg. Originally, it was believed that Komodo dragons hunted their prey because of the large number of pathogenic bacteria in their mouths, and the prey only died because of infection with pathogenic bacteria. In recent years, a team of researchers from Professor Fury of the University of Melbourne in Australia has overturned this claim, finding that the jaws of Komodo dragons contain glands that secrete a deadly venom, which contain highly active angiodilaterin and anti-hemagglutination components. After the prey is injected, the blood pressure will drop rapidly, the wound will not stop bleeding, and it will be unconscious for a short time.

Since it is very common for alien species to flow into China at present, if you also like to raise lizards, be sure to find out its species first.
