This stems from the World Health Organization (WHO)'s removal of "homosexuality" from the psychiatric list on May 17, 1990. Since there are many countries around the world where homosexuals are treated unfairly, the International Day against Homophobia allows others to know that homosexuals can live healthy and happy lives, thus making people no longer fear homosexuals.
