Remember before and after the Eighth Route Army rushed to transport "Zhaocheng Gold Collection" in 1942

Text/Zeng Yuan

In January 1977, the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee entrusted Comrade Li Wanli to collect materials on the life of his father, Comrade Shi Jian. In the process of collection, Li Wanli learned that Shi Jian had organized the rescue of the famous "Zhaocheng Gold Collection" when he was the secretary of the Second Prefecture Committee of the Taiyue District of the Communist Party of China and the political commissar of the military sub-district, and immediately began to learn about this treasure.

In the early 80s of the 20th century, various newspapers and periodicals successively published many articles about the rescue of the "Zhaocheng Gold Collection" by the Eighth Route Army, but there were different accounts of some historical facts. In order to find out the facts, Li Wanli revisited the relevant leading comrades in the former Taiyue area one by one, read a large amount of materials, sorted out Comrade Zeng Yuan's memoirs, and recalled in detail the process of the Eighth Route Army rescuing and guarding this scripture from the clutches of the Japanese invaders during the War of Resistance Against Japan.

I originally worked in the 213 Brigade of the New Army in Shanxi, but in 1940 the Northern Bureau decided to transfer me out of the army to do local work and send me to the Taiyue District Party Committee. Comrade An Ziwen, secretary of the district party committee, sent me to Taiyue to appoint the secretary general, which at that time had not yet been made public, and was known externally as "Shandong" and also known as "Bao Tou". At that time, the secretary of the second prefectural party committee and political commissar of the military sub-district was Comrade Shi Jian.

Around the spring of 1942, one day I was in the northeast room of the prefectural committee organ of Kangyi Village, Anze County, when I heard Comrade Shi Jian discussing with Comrade Zhang Tianheng, director of the Political Department of the Military Subdistrict, about the robbery of the Guangsheng Temple sutras. Comrade Shi Jian said to me: "Lao Zeng, Xiao Tianheng (Shi Jian always affectionately calls Comrade Tianheng Xiao Tianheng) eats here, adds a dish, and makes some meat. "When I went out to set up the meal, I met Comrade Li Shuwen (secretary of the prefectural women's committee), Comrade Shi Jian's lover, and I told her, "Comrade Tianheng is here, I'll go prepare the meal." "They're going to do something big." I said, "I also know that it is the rush to luck the Guangsheng Temple sutra." She immediately whispered, "Don't talk nonsense beforehand." ”

Shanxi Guangsheng Temple

A few days after the incident, some comrades of the prefectural party committee organs went to rush to transport the scripture scrolls, covered by a company of the basic cadre battalion of the military sub-district, and Li Changxing (Li Xilin), secretary of the Zhaocheng County CPC Committee, and Xu Shengfang, commander of the county brigade, led their troops to rush the scripture scrolls back with the close cooperation of the masses. I remember that among the comrades who participated in the memorization of the scriptures in the organs of the prefectural committee was the old Red Army!

At that time, the second prefectural committee was located at the forefront of Taiyue District. The work of the enemy work of the second prefectural party committee has been carried out well, and the work can be carried out in the counties and towns in the enemy-occupied areas. At that time, the enemy workers were all single-line contacts, and some of the enemy workers sent by Taiyue District were personally sent by Shi Jian, secretary of the Second Prefecture Party Committee, and I remember that there were comrades Li Ligen, Mu Bin, and Yuan Yinglai.

I remember that the information that the Japanese wanted to rob the Tibetan sutra of Guangsheng Temple was obtained from within the enemy, saying that the Japanese planned to rob the sutra, but could not find a place to hide the sutra. After receiving the information, Comrade Shi Jian suggested that decisive measures be taken to transport the Jing back before the Japanese. Because of the importance of the matter, he immediately asked to report to the secretary of the district party committee Anzi, and the district party committee reported to the party central committee. The rush to transport Tibetan scriptures was approved by the Party Central Committee.

When the scroll was transported to the prefectural party committee, everyone came to greet and watch. Comrade Shi Jian opened the scripture scroll and said happily: "This is too precious, and we must protect it well." "He asked me to arrange for some of the scriptures to be temporarily placed in the north and northwest rooms of the prefectural committee organs, and I don't know where the rest of the scriptures are placed.

The original plan was to immediately transfer the scriptures to the party committee station of Taiyue District in Qinyuan County, but before it was time, the Japanese "sweep" began. Before the anti-"sweep" campaign set off, Comrade Shi Jian told everyone: "Protecting the scriptures well is a major matter, and everyone has to memorize several scriptures. He also proclaimed a discipline: "Man who is in the Scriptures shall coexist with the Scriptures." Those who are absent from the scriptures will be punished by party discipline upon return. "We took the scriptures with us in the mountains around Qianyi, Maling and Zequan to deal with the Japanese invaders. After the anti-"sweep" ended, this part of the scriptures was transferred to the party committee station of Taiyue District in Qinyuan County. I remember that among the people who took over the scriptures was Comrade Liu Jisun.

At present, the Guangsheng Temple collection is a national first-class cultural relic and is treasured in the Beijing Library (now the National Library). Whenever I recall this incident, I deeply miss the two old leaders An Ziwen and Shi Jian, who contributed to the defense of the Tibetan scriptures of Guangsheng Temple, especially Comrade Shi Jian, who had the insight to report to his superiors in a timely manner and organized troops to recover this rare treasure from the mouth of the Japanese invaders.
