Xu Guozhang identified Hong Wendong as his biological father, and his mother Xu Yingmei had a relationship with Hong in 1956 and gave birth to Xu Guozhang on May 17, 1962, because Hong was already married at that time, so Xu Yingmei raised Xu Guozhang alone, and did not tell his son Hong as his biological father until Xu Guozhang was 10 years old, and took Hong to recognize him. Later, at every meeting, Xu called Hong "Daddy", and Hong never denied it. Later, Xu Guozhang followed his mother to the United States and did not return to Taiwan until the age of 18.
Xu Guozhang said that Hong Wendong had remitted a total of US$90,000 in March 2004 and February 2008 to pay for his tuition and heart surgery. Although Hong did not accept paternity testing, the court held that Hong Wendong had a considerable status, and if Xu Guozhang was not his own flesh and blood, how could he allow him to call himself "Daddy" and provide money for a long time without compensation.
In November of the previous year, Hong Wendong passed away, Yang Lihua inherited the lawsuit, and the second instance trial of the High Court still found Xu as Hong's illegitimate son and rejected the appeal. Yang Lihua was not satisfied with the appeal again, and the Supreme Court held that the appeal procedure was illegal, and now rejected the appeal to determine that Xu Guozhang was the son of Hong Wendong.
