Chelsea in the Europa Giants' Top Ten "Parallel Goods" Player Series

author:Football old Jan

The Blues Chelsea is undoubtedly the founder of golden dollar football, since the Russian oligarchs took the Blues under their name in 2003, the club has opened a buy-and-buy mode, spending hundreds of millions of pounds every season on buying stars to strengthen the squad!

Obviously, the effect of spending a lot of money is very significant, Abu Chelsea has won 18 championships in just 19 seasons, including 5 league titles, 2 Champions League titles, 1 Europa League title, 5 FA Cup titles, and turned this middle and lower level team in the Premier League into a prestigious European giant, which makes us sigh at the superpower attributes of money!

But in the rush of gold dollar football, not every sum of money is worth the money. The same is the cost of tens of millions of pounds, you may buy the thighs of the team, or it may be a disappointing "parallel goods" player!

Back to the point, now let's take stock of the top ten "parallel goods" players that Chelsea has spent a lot of money to buy in recent years, and see why they are so "watery":

10. Marin (£6 million)

In the summer of 2012, Chelsea signed German midfielder Marco Marlin from Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga for a transfer fee of £6 million. During bremen' time, Marin, along with Ozil and Hont, formed the most powerful attacking combination in the Bundesliga at that time. But in chelsea's three years, he rarely made appearances, only making 6 league appearances for the team and scoring one goal. That said, Marin's appearance at Chelsea is around £1 million a game. So we can see why he appears at the end of this list.

9. Veron (£15 million)

After joining Chelsea in 2003, Abu took Perón from Manchester United to Stamford Bridge for £15m. But Veron's soft style of play simply could not adapt to the frequent physical contact in the Premier League, Perón has never shown his high level in England, and his Chelsea career is even worse than his performance at Manchester United. In 4 years of blues career, there have only been 7 appearances in total, and most of the time he has been loaned out! So Veron's £15 million transfer fee is arguably one of the worst value-for-money players in the Abu era.

8. Mutu (£15.8 million)

Mutu was also one of the first stars Abu signed after joining the Blue Bridge. In August 2003 Abu took him from Parma to Stamford Bridge for £15.8 million. He stunned the Premier League with a four-goal start in three games. But the drug scandal that followed almost ruined his career, and he was removed from the Chelsea list. Mutu's "water" was more caused by his unclean self-improvement, and after he became rich, he fell into bad habits, but fortunately, he later lost his way and performed well in Juventus and Florence! But he has not contributed to Chelsea at such a high price, so it is reasonable to be on the list!

7. Zhirkov (£18 million)

In the summer of 2009, Abu spent 18 million pounds to recruit His Russian compatriot, Zhirkov, known as the "Russian Little Luo", to become the most expensive player in Russia! But he did not show much competitiveness at Chelsea, and there were few opportunities for him to be crushed by Ashley Cole in the same position!

Until Zhilkov left, his transfer fee equaled to the number of league appearances, reaching 620,000 pounds per game, which still put Abu on the fellow with a real heel without taking into account his high salary!

6. Cuadrado (£24 million)

On 3 February 2015, Chelsea announced on their official website that they had officially signed Colombia international Cuadrado from Fiorentina for a transfer fee of £26.5 million (and as part of the deal, Salah was loaned to Purple Lily). Unfortunately, in the Premier League, the former Serie A superman did not show his ability, making 11 of the 15 appearances as a substitute, scoring only 1 assist without scoring a goal. Since joining the £24m team, he has only made 13 appearances in the league, which is almost worth more than £2 million in one appearance, and, most of the time, he has made his appearance as a substitute. What's more, salah was also taken out, and the gain was not worth the loss!

5. Torres (€58.5 million)

Chelsea signed Torres from Liverpool for a record €58.5 million in 2011 and was one of the best strikers in Premier League history when he joined Chelsea, scoring 65 goals in 102 Premier League games during his time at Liverpool. But after joining Chelsea, Torres's form plummeted, and even showed a bad performance against Manchester United. Although he scored a crucial goal in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, scoring just 45 goals in 172 games was a far cry from what the Blues had come to expect.

4. Shepchenko (50 million euros)

In 2006, Chelsea signed "Ukrainian nuclear warhead" Andrei Shevchenko from AC Milan for a transfer fee of 35 million pounds (about 50 million euros), setting a new record for the transfer fee of Chelsea clubs at that time. The Ukrainian is one of the finest strikers in AC Milan's history, making 208 appearances for AC Milan in seven seasons and scoring 127 goals, as well as winning the 2004 European Footballer of the Year (Ballon d'Or) and the 2005 Golden Foot Award for his performances at AC Milan. But when Shevchenko came to Stamford Bridge, his performance was disastrous, and his contribution to the team was pitiful. In three years, he scored just nine goals in 48 league games, and when Sheva left Stamford Bridge, he scored just 22 goals for Chelsea, less than Milan scored in a season.

3. Dresswater (€50 million)

In 2017, Chelsea signed Drickwater from Leicester City, and Dresswater's transfer value was £35 million, breaking the record for player transfers in Leicester City history at that time. Since 2012, Drimpwater has formed an excellent midfield combination with Albreton, Kante and Mahrez to help Leicester City do miracles and win the 2015/16 Premier League! So when Chelsea decided to have Kante and Drickwater work together at Stamford Bridge, they believed the duo would be as successful as they were at Fox City. However, the truth did not go according to plan, and Drickwater's poor performance was eventually completely abandoned by the manager, and he only made 23 appearances for the Blues in all competitions. De linkwater then began his wandering life on loan, playing for Villa, Turkish Super League side Caspasa and Championship side Reading.

2. Morata (€80 million)

In the summer of 2017, Chelsea spent 80 million euros to bring in Morata from Real Madrid to fill a vacancy after Costa left. In the 2016-17 season, Morata scored 20 goals in 43 appearances at Real Madrid, and many off the bench; in La Liga, Morata made 26 appearances, including 12 off the bench, scoring 15 league goals, and throughout the 2016-17 season, Morata was the second most scoring player in real Madrid (after Cristiano Ronaldo).

In the early days of the Blues, Morata was extremely efficient, but with injuries, suspensions and tactical changes in manager Conte, the Spaniard gradually fell into silence, and even needed to be a substitute for a while, and the state was very unstable. Morata scored a total of 24 goals in his three seasons at Chelsea, for a total of 3.3 million goals, which really hurt Abu. There is no doubt that Morata joined Chelsea for 80 million yuan, but it is reasonable to call him a "parallel cargo" because his performance is far from expectations.

1. Kepa (80 million euros)

On 9 August 2018, Chelsea signed goalkeeper Kepa from Athletic Bilbao for €80 million. In this way, Kepa became the most expensive goalkeeper in new world football to break Alisson's record of 72.5 million. Chelsea's original intention was to hope that Kepa would replace the impact of Kurtour's departure from Real Madrid. But after spending a lot of money, all he got was a most expensive parallelist in the history of football. At one point, the former team's epic champion could only serve as the team's third goalkeeper after Mendy and Caballero. Kepa not only performed very badly, but even blatantly defied the orders of head coach Sarri's substitution on the field, so he was nicknamed "Kepa Coach" by everyone! Kepa is currently in a slightly improved state under Tuchel's tutelage, and we can also look forward to his follow-up performances, whether there is a chance to get rid of the title of the most expensive parallel goods goalkeeper!
