Born in Xiangyang in 1995, Yan Zibei joined the Hubei Provincial Swimming Team in 2011 and was selected for the National Swimming Training Team in 2014, making him the Asian record holder in the men's 100m breaststroke. In 2019, Yan Zibei won the third place in the men's 100m breaststroke at the Gwangju World Swimming Championships. At the Tokyo Olympics, Yan Zibei, together with his teammates Xu Jiayu, Zhang Yufei and Yang Junxuan, won the silver medal in the 4×100m men's and women's medley relay.
