Upper cotton thirty-five factory
The roar of the machine, the spinning of the spinning, every time commuting, workers come in and out, rushing back and forth like the tide of the Yangtze River...
At one time, the largest enterprise on Chongming Island, the Shanghai No. 35 Cotton Spinning Factory, how many people witnessed its prosperity, how many people spent their youth here, and when the last loom came to an abrupt end, how many people burst into tears.
Today, walking through No. 178 Gongnong Road in Bao Town, looking through the rusty fence, although the factory building is dilapidated and decaying, the grandeur of the past is still faintly visible.
Shangmian 35th Factory, formerly known as Datong and Fu'an spinning mills founded by Chongming national capitalist Du Shaoru in 1919 and 1932 respectively, was once the earliest and largest enterprise in Chongming's local industry. In the early days of its establishment, the mill's production was booming; During the Anti-Japanese War, it was also discontinued several times; After liberation, after industrial reform, several mergers were transferred. In 1966, according to the ordinal order of the state-owned textile factories in the city at that time, it was renamed the state-owned Shanghai No. 35 Cotton Spinning Factory, referred to as the Shangmian No. 35 Factory, which locals often call the spinning mill.
At that time, the 35th Cotton Factory in Chongming was a hit, and most of the town was the property of the factory. This is the place that young people yearn for, and it is an "honor" to be able to work here. Many families in the Fort Town area have been linked to this area for two or even three generations, having been born in a spinning mill, raised in a mill and working in a mill. According to records, by the end of 1992, there were as many as 5,410 employees in the 35th Shangmian Factory.
Gongnong Road, dividing the spinning mill into two, the south factory area, living area and north factory area run through the "35th factory road", like most state-owned factories in that era, the yarn factory is equipped with family areas, staff apartments, children's primary schools, nurseries, hospitals, cinemas, guest houses... Near the factory, it can be described as the most lively place in the fort town area.
No. 247 Middle Road, Baozhen, was once the location of the Mill Staff Cinema, where movies, workers' meetings, and theatrical performances were held. In the early fifties, the mill built a 930-seat workers' cinema, which became the earliest cinema in Chongming, and young men and women gathered from all over the world every evening when the movie was about to start.
No. 7 Gongnong Road, formerly the staff hospital of Shanghai Cotton No. 35 Factory, formerly known as the Datong and Fu'an Mill Clinics founded in 1956, is also the only factory-run staff hospital for more than 600 enterprises in Shanghai's textile system. According to the original factory records, from 1966 to 1977, eight red medical classes were held, training more than 180 health care personnel for the spinning mill and the Shanghai cotton spinning system; It is also recorded in the Chongming County Chronicle that "the hospital has strong technical force and has trained more than 300 interns, barefoot doctors and health workers for Chongming County." ”
When the sun sets, the machines stop running, the workshop after a busy day becomes quiet, the children are dismissed from the children's elementary school, the mill workers take the children home one after another, and the living area begins to become lively; There are many female employees in the mill, and everyone knows that the girls here are diligent and careful, so every time after work, you will often see such a scene at the factory gate: young men from other factories stand in rows, looking around, waiting for their beauties.
Generations of textile workers have witnessed the history of the mill for more than 80 years, and they have created miracles here with their youth and labor in the spinning of looms and shuttles. Nowadays, walking into the factory area, people go to empty buildings, dilapidated factory buildings, and desolate eyes, but some "perseverance" and "new life" are touching.
In the south factory area, there is a camphor tree that is more than 150 years old, and it still radiates vitality in the abandoned factory room; The 90-year-old magnolia next to it blooms white flowers in the March spring breeze; There are also more than 100-year-old magnolia and Luo Han pine that also stretch their branches wantonly, helping us record the secrets of time. According to the left-behind personnel of the 35th Factory on the Shangmian Factory, this is a bird flying with seeds and landing here to plant, people say that "birds sow seeds" to place on acacia, for generations of 35th factory people, how is it not another "acacia".
Today, it seems that we can still hear the voice of history from these buildings and see the context of Chongming's national industrial development. Although the 35th Shangmian Factory has declined, the production spirit in the cotton spinning mill has been integrated into the blood of several generations and passed on to the next generation.
Now, when we come to the vicinity of the 35th Shangmian Factory, we can see that there are still people coming and going here, but there is no longer the hot scene before, we can only look back at that fiery history through time, and make it a nostalgia, a complex, and an unforgettable memory.
Now, the former Chase Mill office building and other buildings in the factory area have become immovable cultural relics and have been protected. Not long ago, the factory buildings and office buildings of the 35th Shangmian Factory were also recognized as the first batch of Shanghai industrial heritage. In the future, it may also be planned to be developed as a cultural and creative base, when the old buildings will return in another form.
