Bangkok, 5 Apr (People's Daily News) -- It is another year of Qingming Day, and the spring breeze turns into rain to send mourning. On April 5, Li Bing, National Defense Military Attache of the Embassy in Laos, led representatives of various departments of the embassy, Chinese-funded companies and institutions in Laos, and representatives of overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese to visit the graves of the Chinese Martyrs' Cemetery in Sichuan Khouang Province to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs of the Chinese revolution who were buried here in support of the cause of national liberation in Laos.
The ritual is solemn, with pines and cypresses green and mourning. With solemn feelings, the representatives of China and Laos jointly laid a wreath at the Martyrs' Monument and observed a moment of silence, expressing high respect and deep condolences to the revolutionary martyrs.
In the sixties and seventies of last century, in order to support the Lao people in their struggle for national independence and national liberation, hundreds of Chinese martyrs were buried in Sian Khouang Province, Udomxay Province and other places. Today's activities to pay homage to the cemetery of Chinese martyrs are of great significance to remember the martyrs, remember history, carry forward the spirit of heroes and martyrs, and work together to build a better future. We must inherit the legacy of the revolutionary martyrs, inherit the red genes, and strive to become the inheritors, promoters and practitioners of the traditional friendship between China and Laos and the practitioners of high-quality joint efforts to build a community of common destiny between China and Laos.
Brigadier General Kham Thong of the Military Command of Sian Khouang Province said that in the sixties and seventies of the last century, when the Lao people were fighting for national independence and territorial integrity against foreign enemies, China helped Laos resist the aggression of external imperialist forces, and hundreds of Chinese revolutionary martyrs were buried in Laos. Over the past 50 years, the Lao Party and Government and the people, the provincial party committee and people of Sichuan Khouang will never forget the contributions and sacrifices made by the heroic martyrs of the Chinese revolution, will always remember and always remember the traditional friendship between Laos and China and the kindness of the Chinese people, educate the Lao people to inherit and carry forward the traditional friendship of the Lao and Chinese peoples from generation to generation, and on the basis of carrying forward the "four good spirits", promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Laos, deepen the construction of a community with a shared future between China and Laos with win-win cooperation, and bear fruitful results.
During the War to Aid Laos and Resist US Aggression in the last century, the Chinese Government sent an economic and cultural delegation to Kham Khai in Sian Khouang Province, and five comrades were bombed by US planes while performing their official duties and were buried on Lao soil. In order to remember them forever, the Chinese Embassy in Laos renovated the Martyrs' Cemetery and Monument in April 1996, organized the renovation and expansion in February 2017, and sent people to pay homage every year. The Martyrs' Cemetery covers an area of more than 3,400 square meters, the monument is 12 meters high, and the inscription on the front reads: The martyrs of the Chinese revolution are immortal.
