In the trailer, easter eggs from Morimi, Nakamura, and Ueda appear.

Directed by Masaaki Yuasa and presented by Gen Hoshino, the animated film "Spring Is Short, Girls Go Forward" will be released in Japan on April 7. The film is based on the best-selling work of the same name by Noboru Morimi, masaaki Yuasa returns with the team of the otaku god work "Four And a Half Myths". Whether it is the original work, the production team, or the voice actor lineup, it is the most anticipated work for fans this year.

Set around Kyoto University, the story tells the story of the hero known as the "senior" and the girl who has a crush. Reality and fantasy are intertwined, and a little taste of "home system" makes the protagonist's life more bizarre.

The "Four and a Half Stacks" team reunited after 7 years

Regarding the origin of the production, Masaaki Yuasa said: "The "Four And a Half Myths Series" made seven years ago received a lot of praise, and at that time, it was said that I would make another work by Noboru Morimi. That time can not be said to do immediately, go around in circles, probably mentioned again the year before. "Because there are many similar characters to the four and a half stacks, the production team and the voice cast are also as consistent as possible. In addition to Masaaki Yuasa, who is the director, the script is Makoto Ueda, the character setting is Yusuke Nakamura, the music is the band ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, and the original author, Noboru Morimi, can be described as the reunion of "Four and a Half Folds" after 7 years.

Regarding the animation work, Yuasa said that he could feel the pressure brought by the original work: "I am also a simple fan and respect the original work. So it should be fine. Regarding Yusuke Nakamura's collaboration, Masaaki Yuasa said that because almost all of Morimi Noboruhiko's novels are drawn by Yusuke Nakamura, "it is rich in color and very cute." When you walk at night, you can also feel the breath of light. ”

Masaaki Yuasa, as a genius in the Japanese animation industry, has taken a completely different path from the current Japanese commercial animation, but there is no shortage of popular works. In addition to "Four and a Half Stacks", works such as "Beast Claw" and "Seahorse" in the early years were also well received by adult animation fans; and in the past one or two years when sports-themed animation was popular, Matsumoto Dayang's extremely stylized and almost impossible to animate "Ping Pong" was put on the screen. In terms of expanding the language of animation, Masaaki Yuasa's contributions to Japanese animation are among the best on the way to becoming an "art".

Hoshino voiced the protagonist for the first time

The film features top voice actors (i.e., voice actors) in the anime dubbing world, such as Kaori Hanazawa, Koshi Kamiya, and Kazuya Nakai. One of the most surprising is the musician and actor Hoshino Yuan, who provoked the male protagonist. Hoshino's popularity grew with "Escape from Shame but Useful" with Yui Niigaki last year and the Okawa drama Sanada Maru. As for why he was chosen to contribute, director Masaaki Yuasa said that "the personality and temperament are very similar to the protagonist.".

In October last year, Masaaki Yuasa personally sent a letter to Hoshino Gen, inviting him to play the role of "senior". Hoshino said that he had been a fan of Masaaki Yuasa since the time of MIND GAME (2004), and this time he naturally could not refuse. "The dubbing process was also very enjoyable. "Four and a Half Stacks" is light and extremely fast, this time it is a bit noisy, and everyone's mood is very high. The role of 'senior' is a very serious person. Always asking myself and answering the long way, I hope I express this feeling. ”

The recording was completed on two days in February. This is the first time that Hoshino has played the role of "voice actor starring", and he has challenged 20 different voice lines in the film. The super fast speed of the tongue twister and the unique "self-questioning and self-answering" scene are almost the same as "Four and a Half Stacks". Judging from the trailer, Hoshino's "voice actor starring debut" this time should be worth looking forward to.

■ The original author talks

Noboru Morimi was born in 1979 in Nara, Japan, and graduated from Kyoto University with a master's degree in agronomy. Most of the novel works are set in Kyoto, and mostly tell the life of a university otaku in a room the size of "four and a half stacks". He has been called "the most unorthodox genius".

Q: How is this one different from other works?

Noboru Morimi: "Spring Is Short, Let's Go Forward" is a very important work for me, and I hardly want to give it to anyone. But because of the team of the "Four And a Half Myths Series" (animated in 2010), this idea was abandoned. Hopefully, Director Yuasa can do whatever he wants. Although this work is very popular in the mainstream market, the content is not very "mainstream". I myself looked back and felt like a dream, "What is this?" It actually makes sense" This kind of." It's a lot of difficulty to make into a movie. And because it's my most popular work, readers are looking forward to it. Considering this burden on the producer, I still have some regrets in my heart.

Q: When you compare the original novel and the anime, do you feel the difference between the two?

Noboru Morimi: I'm probably the person who feels the most about this difference, and I'm often asked if the animation is the same as the original. My method of writing novels is relatively easy to present the sense of picture through words, and the relationship between animation and text is inseparable. "Spring Is Short, Girls Go Forward" script when it came to see it. The director's understanding and the picture he wants to present are completely integrated, and I basically don't say much about this aspect.

Q: Will the fans of the novel increase after the animation?

Noboru Morimi: "Shikaku Half Myth Series" is my early work, and the original sense of existence is very thin. Thanks to the blessing of animation, its popularity has also increased greatly, and it has sold a lot. "Top Heaven Family" attracts a lot of people who usually watch animation. The readers of my novels are basically young people. Although it will be surprisingly interesting to read, it is still difficult to like it without the opportunity to contact. After the animation, many people who did not read much novels also began to watch.

Although not deliberately, the characters and objects in my novels will appear in different works, and there are some connections. So other works have more or less increased their popularity. Although not intentionally, this commercial means is not bad. [Laughs]
