Northern Myanmar, located on the border between China's Yunnan province and Myanmar, is an area dominated by illegal activities such as gambling and drug trafficking. The region has long been regarded as one of the most dangerous along China's border with Myanmar. In recent years, media reports of frequent outbreaks of violence in northern Myanmar have cautioned against venturing to the region.
Security has been going on for years in northern Myanmar, where militants often engage in clashes and attacks. In August 2019, the local National Liberation Front launched a large-scale attack in Bago province in northern Myanmar, resulting in the death and injury of about 70 government troops and hundreds of civilians. In addition, because of its proximity to China, northern Myanmar has also become a transit point for the drug trade. Local police have reportedly cracked down on drug trafficking gangs on several occasions, but these illegal activities persist.
In addition, northern Myanmar also has relatively backward infrastructure, poor medical conditions, and insufficient tourism resources. Therefore, it is not recommended to travel to the area even if there are no security concerns. Tourists in the area may face injuries or illnesses that cannot be treated in a timely manner, and it is also difficult to enjoy comfortable accommodation and quality tourism services.
Despite so many problems in northern Myanmar, there are still some people who go there for thrills or business. For these people, we advise them to raise awareness of self-protection, comply with local laws and regulations, and try to avoid involvement in illegal activities. If they must travel to the area, they are advised to only choose safe and reliable transportation and to carefully protect their property and personal safety during the trip.
At the same time, we also call on the government and relevant institutions to take stronger measures to solve the problems in northern Myanmar. For example, strengthening border management, cracking down on illegal activities, improving the level of infrastructure construction, and so on. Only in this way can security and stability in northern Myanmar be ensured.
In general, there are serious security risks and inadequate infrastructure in northern Myanmar. If it is not necessary, we recommend that people avoid traveling to the area to ensure their own safety and the health of their families. At the same time, we also need to strengthen publicity and education to make more people aware of the dangers in northern Myanmar so as to avoid unnecessary risks.
