The observation and seminar was co-sponsored by the Children's Film Working Committee of the China Filmmakers Association, the China Film Critics Society and the Guangdong Film and Television Industry Association. Experts at the meeting agreed that the film is very moving and rare in youth films. Films have forward-looking and realistic educational significance, which is conducive to promoting the quality education and sound personality cultivation of young people.
"My Physical Education Teacher" is planned and led by the Guangdong Film and Television Industry Association, co-produced by Guangdong Qunxing Film Media Group, Guangzhou Radio and Television Station and other units, and directed by Zhou Yong, a well-known director in Guangdong. The film tells the story of Liu Haochen, a new senior physical education teacher, who insists on defending the right of students to take physical education classes under the situation that other teachers frequently encounter "hegemonic classes" and parents also think that "physical education classes are not important", and work with other teachers to help students take the college entrance examination. The style of the film is youthful and realistic, and there is no lack of rich comedic elements, pointing to the phenomenon of physical education classes being "marginalized".
In addition to boldly using the new generation of actors Sun Jialin and Wei Lu as the male and female protagonists in the play, the film also invited more than 20 veteran actors such as Tao Yuling, Hou Tianlai, Sun Hongtao to participate in the special performance, and selected more than 40 ordinary students to play the students of the third (2nd) class of high school, and jointly interpreted a period of hot blood youth in the high school era with the old and the new.
Zhou Yong, a director known as a "professional household in children's films", has previously planned, supervised and directed more than 20 film and television works such as "Lychee Red", "Internet Mother", "Talking Kite", "Filial Piety Jackpot", "Flash Boy", etc., and has won many awards such as the Chinese Film Huabiao Award, the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival and the "Five One Project".
"This is a film of youth and blood, and I hope that through it, I will promote the concept of the whole people to love sports, promote the normalization of youth physical exercise, especially at the moment when the epidemic has not gone far, and hope to inspire young people to maintain the sportsmanship of never accepting defeat and striving forward." Zhou Yong said.
At the seminar, Zhang Sitao, president of the China Taiwan-Hong Kong Film Research Association and director of the Film Literature Creation Committee of the China Filmmakers Association, said that as a small-budget film, "My Physical Education Teacher" focuses on the areas that the current people are most concerned about, has the courage to reveal the real contradictions in the education industry, and flashes the light of Chinese film realism.
According to the filmmakers, "My Physical Education Teacher" has conducted more than 30 roadshows in Guangzhou, Nanchang, Wuhan, Foshan and other places since March this year, and more than 20,000 spectators have watched the film. In addition, after being successfully nominated for the international feature film unit of the 2021 Nice International Film Festival in France, and winning five nominations for "Best Foreign Language Film", "Best Feature Film", "Best Scene Design", "Best Original Screenplay of Foreign Language Film" and "Best Director of Foreign Language Film", the film was shortlisted for other awards such as the Children's Film Unit of the 3rd Hong Kong International Youth Film Festival and the Feature Film Unit of the 2nd Asian Chinese Film Festival.
