Beyond the peak, beyond the self

author:quiet. far

Today I share an inspirational story about the struggles of a cyclist. The protagonist of this story uses his tortuous and legendary life story to warn us that as long as we transcend ourselves, there is nothing that cannot be done in the world, and explain to us the great power of transcending ourselves.

American cyclist Lance. Armstrong, his athletic career was brilliant, but the most valuable thing was his attitude towards life. He overcame cancer and surpassed himself.

In 1995, Armstrong's teammates, after completing a very strenuous climb, collided with a group of runners while descending the hill, seriously injuring their faces and heads, and eventually died. Armstrong was devastated by the unexpected death of his friend, saying: "The death of my friend is my most painful memory, and no failure or disappointment in cycling can be compared." We had dinner together the night before he left us. After this accident, Armstrong was not intimidated by the difficulties, and for the sake of his beloved cycling sport, he persevered and put in great effort and enthusiasm.

1996 was the onslaught of his cycling, but fate played a relentless joke on him. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer during a physical examination! No one believed he would survive at that time, let alone continue his sporting career. As the cancer spread day by day, Armstrong completely fell into the trough of his life. He was not willing to wait for the call of death for nothing, he needed to overcome the ruthlessness of fate.

After more than a year of treatment, he miraculously recovered and returned to the field he longed for. The audience on the field gave him a warm applause.

Instead of collapsing his physical strength because of this disease, he doubled his confidence, and his performance in the competition was getting better and better, and an era that belonged to him was coming.

In 1999, the second year of his cancer recovery, in that passionate summer, he participated in the Tour de France as an unknown pawn, and made a big splash, winning the Tour de France that year, and breaking the record of the fastest speed of the original Tour de France, achieving success, it can be said that this championship is a great gift from heaven. This is the result of his courage to challenge setbacks, not to bow to fate, and to surpass himself and exceed limits.

Looking back on the painful days when life was worse than death, Armstrong did not complain, but said lightly: "My survival is already a miracle, and living is not only for victory." In a later autobiography, Armstrong said, "Getting cancer is probably the best thing I've ever encountered in my life." Because experiencing pain can make you stronger, and face cycling needs to be strong. It is his superhuman strength that has made him a "legendary hero" in the eyes of the public.

Overcoming the self and surpassing the limit is a manifestation of courage and perseverance, but there is still enough wisdom to truly overcome the self. To succeed, it is obviously not enough for a reckless man to just blindly do it.

A person's greatest ability is to surpass himself, to challenge himself as a sharp knife, and to use it wisely to cut off the thorns in the journey, to surpass the peak, to surpass himself, in order to move towards a farther goal!
