The "severance of diplomatic relations" between Honduras and Taiwan has dealt a serious blow to the DPP, and the mainland should keep its eyes open and beware of other goals

On March 15, Honduran President Castro Castro instructed her foreign minister to seek diplomatic relations with China. After hearing this news, the DPP authorities were hit hard like a thunderbolt on a sunny day. But while we are happy, we also have to keep our eyes open.

Honduras covers an area of 112,000 square kilometers, which is the size of Jiangsu Province in China and has a population of more than 10 million. With regard to Honduras, we should remember two key points, first, it is one of the least developed countries in Latin America, and second, it has not established diplomatic relations with Chinese mainland so far, but is Taiwan's so-called "ally" in Central and North America.

Some people will wonder, how can there still be countries that "do not open their eyes", do not establish diplomatic relations with Chinese mainland, and run to be friends with Taiwan? Actually, there really is. In addition to Honduras, there are 14 countries including Paraguay, the Vatican, Palau, the Marshall Islands, and Nauru. With the exception of Paraguay, most of these 14 countries are small and very touristy.

Before the Tsai Ing-wen government came to power, there were still more than 20 countries with "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan, but as a result, Aunt Tsai's operation was as fierce as a tiger, leaving only 14 left. Even these 14 small countries have choked enough for the Taiwan authorities and thrown in a lot of banknotes.

Why did Honduras "break off diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan authorities?

First, Honduran female President Castro said during her election campaign that once the election is successful, she will establish diplomatic relations with China. But Castro did not deliver on his promises after coming to power. Perhaps this has a lot to do with Honduras' being in the "back garden" of the United States, under pressure from the United States and Taiwan's gold dollar policy. But with the entire world economic situation in decline, the United States has been overwhelmed, and its assistance to Honduras has only been paid lip service. Although the Taiwan authorities gave money, the trade volume between the two sides was only about one-tenth of that between Honduras and Chinese mainland.

With the development of the Chinese mainland economy and the increasing influence in the world, Honduras also wants to ride the rapid development.

On the other hand, this approach in Honduras does not rule out wanting to use this kind of public opinion to force Taiwan to take more money. At this time, it is the preparatory period for the election in Taiwan, and Honduras will definitely affect the election of the DPP at this juncture. Tsai Ing-wen will definitely leave next year, but Lai Qingde, who is fighting on behalf of the DPP, must consider how to clean up this mess.

After learning that Honduras was going to "sever diplomatic relations," the DPP authorities must have been very panicked in their hearts, and a DPP representative said that the situation was quite grim. Even the US Bloomberg News Agency said in a report that Honduras' move will make Taiwan more isolated.

According to relevant media reports, the last country to "sever diplomatic relations" with Taiwan was Nicaragua. On December 10, 2021, Nicaragua issued a statement recognizing the one-China position. If Honduras "severes diplomatic relations" this time, the DPP authorities will set a new low in the number of "friendly countries", and the sky over the island will be filled with embarrassment.

All this stems from a series of perverse policies adopted by the DPP authorities after they came to power, especially the frequent clamor for "Taiwan independence," which not only unpopular on the island, but also has a bad reputation internationally.

However, we should not rush to boast about the "prodigal son" of Honduras, we must first see whether Castro's policy can be implemented and whether there are any iterations. In other words, it depends on whether Honduras really wants to establish diplomatic relations with the mainland or uses cross-strait relations as a bargaining chip to make profits for itself. After all, in this world, it is not for nothing that countries that say "one China" but actually secretly communicate with the DPP authorities.

Again, we have to stay firm and let the "bullets" fly for a while.

(Nicaragua has announced the resumption of diplomatic relations with China and severed the so-called "diplomatic relations" with the island.)

The fact that Taiwan is part of China cannot be erased, and there is no discussion on this issue. Although there are still a small number of countries in the world that have so-called "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan, everyone knows that this is the DPP authorities' "throwing money" into foreign countries, and this relationship will not last, let alone have sincere intentions. Moreover, in addition to receiving money from the DPP authorities, these countries are also under pressure from some American and Western countries.

It is foreseeable that these countries will gradually sober up and establish or restore diplomatic relations with China, leaving aside the Taiwan authorities, it is only a matter of time. Judging from the general trend of the current times, it is possible for the Taiwan authorities to "zero the number of countries with which they have diplomatic relations," and the great cause of the motherland's reunification is unstoppable.
