Sorrentino holds a silver lion in his hand
The Silver Lion award was won by Italian director Paolo Sorrentino ("City of Beauty", "Youthful", "New Pope"), for "The Hand of God", which is autobiographical and will be released on Netflix on December 15 this year. Set in the turbulent city of Naples in the 1980s, the main character is a teenager named Fabeto Hisa. The plot is full of unexpected joys, such as the arrival of football legend Diego Maradona, but also a sudden tragedy. The film's protagonist also won the Best New Actor award of the year.
Jane Campion won the Best Director Award
Best director was won by New Zealand's Jane Campion for "The Power of a Dog," the second time she has won a Venice Award since she won the Grand Jury Prize for Angels at The Table with Me in 1990 and the Pasinette Award for "The Lady's Nature" in 1996.
