The best way for any gamer to celebrate Halloween is by using horror games. Luckily, the horror genre doesn't usually disappoint at this time of year, and gamers almost always have plenty of horror games to choose from. This year, players can choose from rat-infested horror games or contemptuous horror games in Plague Tales: Requiem. Resident Evil Village also brings a new expansion pack worth revisiting, while Cthulhu: Ancient Books arrives on Halloween to satisfy Lovecraft fans.

This marks the beginning of a series of months that will bring some of the biggest titles of the year. After October's crowded launch calendar, gamers can look forward to another good month in November, when highly anticipated games like God of War: Ragnarok and Pokemon Crimson & Violet will be released. December also seems to be fleshed out, with games like Need for Speed: Unbounded scheduled for the holiday season. However, gamers should not overlook all the horror games that debuted this month.

Scorn (contempt)

One of the funniest releases this October is Scorn. Developed by Ebb Software, scorn transports gamers to a strange biopunk world where machines and flesh merge. The hellish environment is both terrifying and fascinating, with a sense of imminent danger lurking in every dark corner. Although players will have weapons, the game is not a shooting game and players must use their brains to survive. The game's lack of dialogue forces players to rely on clues in their environment to figure out their next move. Scorn seems to be a creepy, creepy survival horror game with a disturbing soundtrack. It launched on October 21 on Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Plague Tales: Requiem

In Plague Tales: Innocence, gamers are introduced to Hugo and Amicia. Although siblings occasionally quarrel, they love each other deeply and fight side by side in life-threatening situations. As they escape the Inquisition and escape the horde of rats, they learn more about Hugo and make some friends along the way. The sequel, Plague Tales: Requiem, will continue their story, but the stakes have increased.

Due to the power of the current generation of consoles, Requiem will render 300,000 mice at a time. The trailer shows the tsunami of rats that Hugo and Amicia must escape, and they have nothing to laugh at. Luckily, Amicia seems to have more tools to play with, which should help her deal with enemies of mice and humans. In addition to new crossbows, she can climb on enemies and stab them with knives.

It seems that the next story will be even darker. In Innocence, players see Hugo and Amicia's childhood taken from them, and they are forced to witness and do heinous things in order to survive. In a PlayStation blog post, lead writer Sebastian Renard of Asobo Studio (the game developer) hinted that Amicia's trauma could be the focus of the upcoming game. As Amicia and her brother face a larger rat colony than ever before, they may find themselves forced to resort to increasingly violent acts to stay alive. Plague Stories: Requiem is probably the scariest game for fans of this Halloween horror. The game will arrive in the PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch stores via the cloud on October 18.

Resident Evil 8 Gold Edition

Resident Evil Village is being re-released with the Gold Edition, which bundles the game with Winters' expansion. This gives gamers access to a third-person mode that will revolutionize the feel of the game. For players who have already played Resident Evil, this is enough to get them back on the adventure. For newbies who may prefer Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 Remakes, this mode offers a more similar gaming experience.

The expansion also brings the Shadow of the Rose DLC. It is played in third-person mode and focuses on Ethan's daughter, Rosemary Winters. The event is likely to answer many lingering questions fans have about the Winters family, or it may raise more questions. Either way, it seems that the gamers are enjoying a terrifying experience. Finally, the Winters expansion brings The Mercenaries, an arcade game mode where players can blast a certain number of enemies in an area before time ends. The difficulty increases with each stage, so players must ensure that their strategy is top-notch. The upcoming expansion is huge and makes Resident Evil Village Gold Edition one of the best Halloween games. It was released on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on October 28.

Cthulhu: The Book of the Ancients

Lovecraft-esque horror films have established themselves in games for decades, and there are almost no games inspired by this terrifying author. Whether it's the Gothic streets of Yharnam in Bloodborrne, the worsening of insanity in Amnesia: Descendants of Darkness, or more immediate effects, such as Cthulhu's call, Lovecraft's touches can be seen everywhere. Gamers looking for some cosmic horror this Halloween should turn to SimFabric's (Polish studio) Cthulhu: Book of the Old.

The Book of the Ancient is a first-person horror game in which players take on the role of detectives searching for six missing children. Things seem to be normal until a note takes players to Miskatonik University, where they find fragments that solve the murder puzzle. For a Lovecraft-style horror experience, as well as murder mysteries, Cthulhu: Old Books seems like a good choice. The game was launched on Halloween on PC and Xbox Series X/S.

Gamers looking for spooky Halloween are spoiled. However, there are also plenty of games that are released in October that are not terrible. This includes Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves collection, which debuted on PC. The predictions for the coming months look good, and gamers of all kinds should find something to suit their tastes.
