At 8:00 a.m. local time on the 24th, the voting for the presidential election of Uzbekistan officially began.

There are about 21.25 million registered voters in this election. There are 10,760 polling stations in Ukraine, 55 fixed polling stations and 316 mobile polling stations overseas. According to the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan, a total of 969 international observers monitored the voting process and more than 1,600 media reporters covered the election.

The general election includes five candidates nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party, the Social Democratic Party, the Eco-Party and other political parties of Uzbekistan, including the current President Mirziyoyev.

According to the information released by the Election Commission of Uzbekistan, in order to reduce the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic on the election, the medical and health department has carried out a comprehensive disinfection of the polling station within 6 hours before the start of the voting. Voters are required to take their temperature before entering the polling station, and those with a body temperature of more than 37 degrees Celsius will be directed to a designated place to vote; voters who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 can vote at home or in the hospital through specific channels.

Voting will close at 8 p.m. on the 24th. The preliminary results will be announced before 12:30 noon on the 25th. Voter turnout is only above 33 percent for the presidential election to be considered valid. Candidates who receive more than 50% of the vote in the first round of elections will be directly elected President of Uzbekistan for a five-year term.
