At the site of the Nanoujiang Class I power station, the delegates learned in detail about the construction process of the Nanoujiang hydropower development project, not only visited the hydropower station dam plant and other hydraulic facilities, but also learned in detail the working principle and operation of a number of environmental protection equipment.
While doing a good job in forest replanting, the Nanoujiang River Basin Company also provided villagers near the power station with economic forest trees and planting knowledge such as mango trees and pomelo trees, so as to promote the upgrading of old orchards. After the power station was put into operation, the unique reservoir sightseeing tour injected strong impetus into the rapid development of local tourism and economy, driving a large number of local residents to find employment, increase income, and become moderately prosperous.
Ms. Tongzhan Akamark, member of the Central Women's Federation of Laos and Chairperson of the Women's Federation of the Ministry of Environment, highly praised the various measures of the Nanou River Basin Company, and said that as a friendship river connected by China and Laos, the Nanou River has not only witnessed the development of the residents along the Nanou River, but also witnessed the friendship between China and Laos that blood is thicker than water, and hoped that the Nanou River Basin Company will continue to operate the power station well, so that the continuous flow of green and clean energy will help the local economic development, make the sky bluer, the water greener, and benefit the Lao people.
The Nanoujiang Cascade Hydropower Station Project is the first overseas project for the overall planning and investment and construction of the whole river basin by Chinese enterprises, which is developed in two phases according to the "one reservoir and seven levels", with a total installed capacity of 1.272 million kilowatts and an average power generation capacity of 5 billion kilowatt-hours for many years, and all of which were put into operation in September 2021.
The development of the project will provide stable and high-quality power supply for the economic and social development of north-central Laos and major projects such as the China-Laos Railway, effectively promote the upgrading and transmission interconnection of regional power grids, and help Laos power export foreign exchange earning and power regional integration process. At the same time, the development of the power station has promoted the improvement of infrastructure and people's livelihood conditions in the river basin area, stimulated the development of labor and employment, related industries and public welfare undertakings, and produced significant economic and social comprehensive benefits, becoming a highlight of the practice of China's "Belt and Road" projects and a good demonstration of China-Laos power energy and water resources cooperation.
