Timing and self-consistency

From career development to making her comfortable life, Chen Yu Estelle has clear presuppositions and cognitions, and at this moment she has grown into a young woman who has her own voice and knows how to use it.
Since her debut at the age of 16, with her steps on the catwalk, she has listened to the outside world's comments on her every move along the way; At the same time, I also gained the secret to maintaining peace of mind - that is, the chill (relaxation) that is most often talked about by young people nowadays.
However, her current self-consistency with her self stems from the collective dividends that social media gives to people in this era; It is also inseparable from the growth experience she has gained along the way.
Perhaps, in today's environment where young people generally have more or less doubts about growth, career development and future prospects, Chen Yu's supermodel attributes are not the only factor that makes them receive so much attention, the kind of switching between various rhythms of life; Being at the juncture of industry transformation, being able to freely transform the maturity of my cognition, is what makes many young girls want to walk with it.
OK!: Chinese believe in "the right time, the right place, the right people", what was the ecological situation of the modeling industry in the year of your debut?
Estelle: There were many "hard and fast rules" in the industry at that time, such as a model with a height of 1.76cm would be considered too short, and the younger the model entered the industry, the better.
But now, models of all heights and shapes have the opportunity to develop. Many girls can choose their career development after they become adults.
The modeling industry is undoubtedly moving in a more positive, diverse and healthy direction. Sometimes, only when you have the right values and worldview can you make objective judgments about yourself and your career plans.
I can't imagine how a 14- or 15-year-old girl would interact with experienced seniors in the industry in an unfamiliar work environment.
OK!: What were the advantages of Asian faces on the international stage at that time? What good opportunities have you been blessed with? In view of the current industry's requirements for the "hard quality" of models, what are the advantages and disadvantages that exist or are lacking?
Estelle: The modeling industry is no longer what it used to be, inclusivity is the first foundation, and there is no doubt that Asian, especially Chinese faces, are getting more and more attention.
As early as 2010, the acceptance of Chinese faces in the European market was mostly caused by the consumer environment; Today, the acceptance of the Eastern Face in the international fashion circle is more out of a sincere love for the charm of our culture. It's also an opportunity that has accompanied me growing in this industry.
For me, self-evaluation is actually a very difficult thing. In the past, I might have overthought a lot of external factors, but now I have learned to absorb and listen to the outside world as much as possible, digest myself, and maintain a relaxed state of mind at the same time.
Estelle's greatest strength may also have to do with her background, where she is adaptable and can communicate in multiple languages, which is especially important for working internationally (the agent adds).
OK!: Many people think of modeling as a "youthful meal" industry, but for you, does this industry also provide you with mental and physical tempering and practice?
For young women who have just entered the workplace, how should they view the appearance and inner value of work?
Estelle Chen: Since entering the industry, I have learned to express my opinions firmly with my own voice and have my own personality.
I still think that the modeling industry is very challenging, and your perception of yourself and the evaluation of you by others are sometimes very different. "Living" in the perception of others makes people lose the right to self-choose.
So after going through a lot of things, I learned not to be too serious about things that I can't control, which is kind of mental growth. I believe this is also something that everyone encounters in their professional life.
For girls who are just starting out in the workplace, I would advise them to listen more to their hearts, enrich their hearts, and make themselves stronger. Other people's external senses have nothing to do with your inner feelings in a certain industry. Losing oneself in order to achieve what others see is a very scary thing.
But at the same time, it can be challenging for young girls to do this early in their careers. Sufficient life experience and work experience can help you better distinguish between right and wrong.
OK!: Your playing and singing skills are very good, and are the instruments and singing part of your supermodel label? For example, senior supermodels like Carla Burni and Daria Werbowy have incorporated music as part of their personality expression, and this is also part of your self-portrait?
At the moment, what kind of spiritual enrichment do you think that having a favorite talent and focusing on it provides to young women?
Estelle: Many people think that the value of models is only to show clothes and accessories, but in fact, this is just our job, and the development of social media has also allowed young people to share their interests more freely and show different levels.
I often use various platforms to share my paintings with others. Especially during quarantine, I created a lot of paintings on my own and fell in love with living at home and cooking food. Knitting is also my recent interest.
I think exploring or developing self-interest can help young people better discover themselves. I used to be a staycation who loved to spend time with my parents and rarely went out to socialize with people.
But as I get older, I have to actively perceive the unknown world, otherwise how can I find out what kind of life I want?
OK!: Do you control how much time you spend browsing social media? In addition to being informative and allowing newcomers to quickly establish themselves, what are the other advantages and conveniences of social media, and even career development opportunities, that you value very much?
But at the same time, there are advantages and disadvantages, how do you view unfair or unobjective evaluation and reporting on the Internet? Where do you think your personal identity and sense of accomplishment come from?
Estelle: I may be following social media all the time, but at the same time, I am very aware of the pros and cons of social media.
Using social media properly allows me to become known quickly, which is an important part of my job; Customers are also very concerned about your presence and activity on social media, and the benefits of social media for the development of newcomers are obvious depending on the way of use. For young people, social media can help you discover many career opportunities.
Sometimes, it's just a less kind comment mixed in with other people's encouragement, and you can feel very frustrated and hurt. But you will learn to rediscover your stability and self-affirmation in the face of false comments, and build a barrier of self-protection.
For example, when I encounter something unhappy, I will communicate with my mother. She and my best friend are also spiritual mentors. As long as you have no regrets about the efforts you have made, then nothing can knock you down.
OK!: Can you tell us about the brands you follow at the beginning of each season? Which clothes from emerging designers are you most looking forward to?
What are some of the great After Party that are the most unmissable? In your spring/summer collection, what are the pieces or total looks that you want to use the most?
Estelle: It's a fashion week right now, and I am amazed by the work of many new designers. Mugler is one of the brands I follow the most, and their designs are so interesting.
I've recently acquired a lot of Courreges' work, and the aesthetic of creative director Nicolas Di Felice is something I personally love. A long time ago, when I was a fitting model at Louis Vuitton, Di Felice also held creative positions in the design team, so I've always loved his creative style.
In addition, I have recently bought a lot of Stussy, Carhartt sneakers, and I have also bought some clothes by Kiko Kostadinov and Hysteric Glamour, and I always pay close attention to the work of new designers.
If there's one thing you want to have, it's Mugler, designed by Casey Cadwallader.
What landmarks and places are the most relaxing and relaxing places in Paris?
"I love spending Saturday mornings with friends in Paris' Le Marais, where there are the best cafes and lots of cool designer shops.
My favorite is a restaurant called 'The Dreaming Man', which is documented on my Instagram (laughs), usually from 11am to 2pm, and chatting with friends is really relaxing and healing."
What's your favorite next travel destination?
"Coming to Beijing makes me feel happy and happy."
What are the items I carry with me on set?
"If I were in Paris, I would carry my phone and keys with me, because my parents would always think I was coming home too late, so I would always have the keys with me (laughs); If I'm out shooting, I also carry the necessary lip gloss and headphones with me to touch up my makeup, so I can't live without music. ”
How many times a week do you go to the gym, massage room or self-care?
"In the summer, I usually exercise 2-3 times a week; Winter is relatively rare. But living in Paris, I often walk and cycle to achieve the effect of exercise.
I really like head massages and sometimes relieve fatigue by pressing pressure points on my legs and back, especially during fashion weeks. But I also think that self-care also includes taking care of your emotions and mentality to make yourself more relaxed."
What's the most incredible filming location?
"About 7 years ago, I went to Bora Bora to complete my first important job shooting experience, which is still fresh in my memory.
Maybe it was because I was shooting in a swimsuit for the first time, so I was very nervous at the time, but being able to swim with sharks was really unforgettable! ”
Which song is looping in the headphones? What's your favorite recent record? Which hit drama is being chased now?
"I love Ariana Grande's songs, and I remember the lyrics of almost every one of her songs. In addition, the songs of the K-pop girl group New Jeans are also cool.
Recently, I have been paying a lot of attention to the Korean romance variety show "Single's Inferno", which is my recent Guilty Pleasure (laughs)."
How many times a month do you buy flowers for your apartment?
"I love flowers so much that my mother and I go to the flower market every Wednesday to buy fresh bouquets for our home. Located on Avenue (to be added), the owner is a French and a Japanese, and the store looks very low-key from the outside, and is only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays every week."
Which supermodel experience excites you the most?
"What excites me the most is probably working with supermodel Liu Wen. When I was 15 years old, I participated in the model selection competition, and her mentor at that time was her (Liu Wen), who gave me a lot of positive encouragement, so I am still very grateful for the care she gave me."
