Many people may not know that in fact, the Korean War has not yet ended, because only the Armistice Agreement was signed, and the first South Korean president, Syngman Rhee, who was the leader of South Korea at the time, refused to participate in the signing of the agreement. So strictly speaking, the two Koreas are still at war, and it is no wonder that in September 2020, South Korea's then-President Moon Jae-in asked for help at the United Nations to end the Korean War once and for all.
For nearly five decades, South Korea has been under enormous military pressure, and there have indeed been a lot of confrontations between the two countries, both explicitly and covertly, such as in 1980, when a female North Korean agent attacked South Korea, killing 115 people, and was sentenced to death but pardoned by the South Korean president. The twists and turns are breathtaking. Kim Hyun-hee is the North Korean female agent who caused the shocking tragedy, her father is North Korean diplomat Kim Won-suk, so the family conditions are superior, and she herself worked very hard to be admitted to the Pyongyang Foreign Language Institute Japanese major. Kim Hyun-hee's dream was to become an actress, she had outstanding looks and starred in a movie as a teenager, but after entering college, she was quickly selected and recruited by the North Korean secret service, and since then she has embarked on a very different life path.
She underwent seven years of training at a place outside Pyongyang called the Tohoku-ri Guest House, where she transformed from an ordinary girl into a dangerous female agent from bare hand fighting to firearms use, from infiltration to demolition. And she also has a new identity: Japanese female Mayumi Beetani, while her regular partner plays her father Shinichi Beetani. In September 1987, Kim Hyun-hee was on a mission in China when she suddenly received an order from her superiors to return to China immediately. Kim Hyun-hee flew directly from Beijing to Pyongyang, and when passing through Beijing, she also bought some gifts and medicines for her mother. Because she has been working incognito for many years, her heart is full of guilt for her parents.
However, as soon as she arrived at the Pyongyang airport, she was taken to the base and given a "national" classified mission, and the gifts she had brought back from Beijing could only be temporarily suspended. After careful preparation and language, in November 1987, Kim Hyun-hee and her partner Kim Seung-il, under the pseudonyms Mayumi Beetani and Shinichi Beetani respectively, set off from Pyongyang as father and daughter and arrived in Baghdad, and their target was flight KAL858 that was about to take off from Baghdad to Seoul. The plane is owned by Korean Air and is mostly carried by South Korean migrant workers. After Kim Hyun-hee and the two got on the plane, covered by Kim Hyun-hee, Kim Seung-il calmly took out a radio, took out the time bomb that had been prepared long ago, and put it in the luggage rack.
When the plane passed through Abu Dhabi, it landed to refuel, and Kim Hyun-hee and the two took advantage of the opportunity to get off the plane. As flight KAL858 continued to South Korea, an explosion occurred over the Myanmar Sea, causing the wreckage to fall into the sea, leaving none of the 115 passengers on board alive. The crash caused a huge international repercussion, and soon the police checked all passengers who disembarked on the way, and found that the passports of Kim Hyun-hee and Kim Seung-il were very suspicious, and after docking with the Japanese embassy, they found that their passports were forged. After confirming this clue, the Bahraini police immediately detained the two men and prepared them for interrogation. At first, Kim Hyun-hee and Kim Seung-il were very cooperative, so that the police carelessly agreed to their request to smoke, and as a result, Kim Seung-il committed suicide by taking a highly toxic capsule, and Kim Hyun-hee was stopped by the police when she hesitated and handed her over to South Korea. At first, Kim Hyun-hee also lied that she was born in China, and later smuggled to Japan, Kim Seung-il is her adoptive father, although she speaks Chinese and Japanese fluently, but more details are not right, so that the South Korean police have strengthened the interrogation method.
After constant inducement, Kim Hyun-hee's psychological defense line was finally breached, providing the ins and outs of this attack. It turned out that the International Olympic Organizing Committee decided to hold the Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea in 1988, and after the discussion between the Korean Olympic Organizing Committee and the Korean Olympic Organizing Committee, South Korea agreed to jointly host the Olympic Games with North Korea. Under the leadership of the International Olympic Organizing Committee, the two sides held many negotiations on specific details, but North Korea's request made South Korea unable to agree, and finally the Korean Olympic Organizing Committee officially issued invitations to various countries and announced that it would independently host the Olympic Games. Angered by South Korea's decision, North Korea orchestrated an attack aimed at raising international suspicions about South Korea's security and preventing the Seoul Olympics. After Kim Hyun-hui confessed, she was sentenced to death after a South Korean court trial, and South Korea also severely condemned North Korea, declaring that the North Korean act was a terrorist attack. North Korea naturally refused to admit it, and issued a statement that it believed that this was a farce directed and performed by South Korea to slander North Korea, and the two sides quarreled internationally.
It was at this time that South Korean President Roh Tae-woo announced a decision: to grant an amnesty to Kim Hyun-hee. As soon as the news came out, public opinion boiled, and some media even speculated that Lu Tae-woo made the decision because of Kim Hyun-hee's beauty. Of course, this is not the case, no matter how beautiful Kim Hyun-hee is, the president of a country will not be confused. In fact, Roh Tae-woo's real purpose is to get Kim Hyun-hee to come forward to identify North Korea and disclose the truth of the attack, and Kim Hyun-hee must have agreed to this request before being amnestied. Although North Korea still does not recognize it, it has no upper hand in public opinion. This may be the best outcome for Kim Hyun-hee, but the pain of the victims' families can never be healed.
