On February 27, 2023, the wind was gentle and the spring breeze was gentle, and our group was invited by classmates and friends to the hometown of Cai Wei, the general of the National Protector University.

The spring breeze accompanied me all the way, and Cai Wei searched for a loyal soul in his hometown.

He supported the republican and anti-imperialist system, and died young.

Cai Wei, also known as Songpo, was born on December 18, 1882 in Shaoyang, Hunan Province. He is a famous politician, military strategist and democratic revolutionary in modern China.

Cai Wei has been an excellent student since he was a child, and met Liang Qichao at the age of 16. Liang Qichao was a democratic-minded university scholar, and under his guidance, Cai accepted a series of ideas for restoration, and he supported the republic and opposed the imperial system.

After graduating from the Japanese Army Non-Commissioned Officer School and returning to China, Cai Wei served as the commander of the new army in Yunnan. On October 10, 1911, the Xinhai Revolution led by Sun Yat-sen broke out, and Cai Wei immediately responded by launching an uprising in Yunnan and declaring Yunnan's independence, and he served as the governor of Yunnan. Later, Yuan Shikai became interim president and transferred Cai Wei to Beijing.

Yuan Shikai played a duplicitous trick, on the one hand, he forced the emperor of the Qing Dynasty to abdicate, and on the other hand, he killed the "Six Gentlemen of Pengxi" who changed the law of restoration, accepted Article 21, and wanted to restore the imperial system and become the emperor himself. Yuan Shikai's dream of the Yellow Emperor was fulfilled for 82 days, and he collapsed amid the criticism of the people of the whole country.

General Cai Wei was resolutely opposed to Yuan Shikai's proclamation as emperor, and in order to fight against Wei Shikai, with the help of Xiao Fengxian, Cai Wei traveled from Beijing to Tianjin, entered Japan, traveled to Yunnan, and then raised troops against Yuan.

Studied under the famous Liang Qichao, and remembered the people's thinking well.

Follow the trend and set great aspirations, gallop across the frontier bravely.

General Cai Wei was a Confucian general who was both civil and martial, and in the short 34 years of his life, he left not many words. Here are two excerpts from "Miscellaneous Notes in the Army":

One of them

The Shu Road is rugged and feasible, and people's hearts are the most difficult to settle.

Brandishing a knife to kill the thief boy, pointing to the White Emperor City.

Second

The barren mountains are cold in February, and the scenery is like a blade moon.

The army was dressed in half the night, and the blood filled the chest and the night was restless.

The first poem writes about Yuan Shikai's determination to fight against Yuan Shikai, and the second poem writes about the general who is bent on rebelling against thieves and can't sleep at night.

In September 1916, General Cai Wei became seriously ill and was sent to Japan for medical treatment. Before he died, he said with deep regret: The great powers invaded China, I cannot die in foreign wars, I cannot die in the shroud of Mag, I cannot make greater contributions to the country, although I die, I have regrets!

General Cai Wei is like a monument that will always stand in the hearts of the people!
