Lenovo's concept laptop at Mobile World Congress 2023
At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, Motorola already impressed us with its rollable concept phone, but its parent company Lenovo is also dabbling in flexible displays, with the screen of its incredible concept laptops getting higher when double-tapped.
Seeing it with your own eyes, it's almost like magic.
At the booth at the mobile trade show, the concept device mainly presented itself as a regular laptop with a keyboard, trackpad and 12.7-inch display. However, the display is flexible and can actually slide in and out of the laptop's body. Double-click the button on the side, and the full length of the screen begins to slowly unfold, forming a larger 15.3-inch display with an 8:9 aspect ratio.
This high-screen format can be very useful for working professionals, as it provides more space for scrolling down web pages or working with large documents or spreadsheets.
It is similar in principle to the technology used in the Motorola Scroll concept phone, which also has an expandable screen that offers a larger surface to watch 16: 9 videos. Like phones, Lenovo's laptops are purely proof-of-concept, with no plans to put them into production or even use the technology on future devices.
However, it is clear that a lot of time, effort and money has been invested in the development of this laptop, and it would not be surprising if we see this technology sold in some form after several generations.
