Last year, he declared a national emergency, began cracking down on gangsters, authorized security forces to arrest suspects without approval, and has arrested 64,000 criminals.

After the prison was overcrowded, the Bukele government built a new super prison around the capital with a capacity of more than 40,000 prisoners, each with 32 cells of 100 square meters in eight buildings, holding 100 criminals, with only two taps and two toilets.

This week, the first 2,000 felons were thrown into Latin America's largest prison in handcuffs and anklets. Bukele said that these violent criminals will be locked up in prison for decades, and they will no longer be able to harm society, and his ultimate goal is to make the gang disappear in El Salvador.

Despite the procedural controversy surrounding Bukele's anti-gang efforts, Salvador's crime and murder rates did plummet after his iron-fisted crackdown on gangs, and therefore also enjoyed the support of the general public.
