"Since I took over Lotus International in 2010, I have approved a total of 228 new varieties. The number of international registrations of new lotus varieties in mainland China has ranked first in the world for many consecutive years. Tashiroko said.
It is understood that the large number of mainland lotus varieties registered is mainly due to the rich lotus resources, the long-standing lotus culture, the good breeding foundation and the active publicity of Tian Daike as the person in charge of the international registration of lotus flowers.
Lotus varieties that have obtained international registration should have the following characteristics: First, the variety has high singular characteristics, high ornamental value, and is suitable for a special purpose. Such as cut flowers, micro-small potted flowers, and particularly large flower volumes.
Second, it has scientific research value. Such as plants or varieties with very small flowers, varieties with narrow petals, varieties with round petals, varieties with curled petals, etc.
Third, varieties with cultural connotations. For example, varieties with high ornamental value and related to an important person, place name, and story.
Fourth, varieties with two or more functions. Such as Hualien seed lotus combined type, Hualien culture combined type, Hualien seed lotus leaf development value combined type, etc.
"The number of registered varieties is not the better, but the hope is to breed more unique and excellent varieties." Tashiro said.
