What is a good animation?
In the Sanlian Life Weekly "Animation Teaches Us Freedom", reporters conducted an interview with the most popular animation director and original artist of China's original animation today, and assembled it into a text to present the young imagination under domestic animation. In addition to the mainstream animators interviewed in this issue, there are also a number of independent animators in China who have long become famous overseas, such as independent animation director Chen Lianhua.
"Two-Man Clothes" Director: Luo Yi
Chen Lianhua is one of the founders of "Fenache Beijing Animation Week" and currently teaches at the Animation Academy of Beijing Film Academy. His animation works have been shortlisted for well-known animation film festivals such as Annecy in France, and have won international awards such as the Best Design Award at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. Chen Lianhua served as the final judge of international animation film festivals such as Zagreb, Croatia in 2019, and was a witness and participant of Chinese animation on the world stage.
What is a good animation work? Once, for Chen Lianhua, the usual reference standard was whether he would go to see it a second time. "There are some works that are right to your heart that can be seen many times. What exactly is it looking at? Is it to see if the animation modeling is beautiful? Chen Lianhua believes that the characteristics of independent animation are precisely to pay attention to the experience of the spiritual world, whether this experience can resonate with more people, independent creation emphasizes the uniqueness of the individual, not too much utilitarianism. Sincerity is not pretentious, which is a necessary condition for the production of a good work, then it is also because sincerity is not pretentious, and it will always find the same kind that can resonate. It will be a kind of healing, there is spiritual comfort, and loneliness is avoided, independent animation is diverse, there are always works that you will love.
