A story from an American friend - looking forward to the recovery of his 20-year-old nephew

As I sat down to prepare for the week ahead, I found myself having to post. I realize that LinkedIn isn't necessarily the best place for a personal post, but my family can really use your prayers. Many of my friends "live" here, so, hello, thank you for reading and praying in advance. The more prayers the better!

My nephew, who is only 20 years old, and a new U.S. Marine, Gabe Shifner, were hit by a bullet while driving in Iowa City last Sunday. This month, he will travel to Okinawa on his first overseas mission, and he is on a four-wheeled journey to say goodbye to his family. In this case, he was on his way to visit his grandparents. He has his family dog and has just picked up one of his favorite meals from the Panda Express!

The bullet went through a gap in his driver's side window and hit him in the brain. He was in critical condition and experienced some big ups and downs this week: bullets were too deep to operate and remove. It is in his hypothalamus that the part of the brain that visibly regulates body temperature. Therefore, it is very difficult to regulate his body temperature.

He had a small pneumonia in his left lung, and the doctors and nurses at my hospital were trying to control it.

The journey will be long and uncertain, but my sister Cody and her husband, Nile Heefner, Gabe's parents, are at the moment the most authentic picture of grace and absolute power. I was amazed at their faith and belief in the Lord, and they continued to talk about the Lord's sovereignty and forgiveness.

I now invite you, please pray that Gabu will wake up. His healing Lord will embrace Gabu with His loving arms, especially his mom and dad Cody and Nile, and his brothers and sisters who he adores in every way. Gabu was only twenty years old, he loved the Lord, he loved his country, and he had a lot of life.

Please see his Love Bridge website to see specific prayer requests. Thanks in advance. We believe in the power of your prayers.
