But a new smoking ban is coming soon, and the 2023 plan aims to ensure a smoke-free generation, with a target of just 5% of the smoke-free population by 2040, according to Europe's anti-cancer plan.
To this end, the Italian Ministry of Health will have to respond to the call to take measures to maximize the health of all citizens. It is necessary not only to raise the price of tobacco, but also to establish new bans on tobacco products and smokers.
First, the ban this year included e-cigarettes in the smoking ban because they are also considered harmful to health, and the ban will ban all heated tobacco as well as announcement advertisements for e-cigarettes.
Secondly, there is also a stricter ban on smoking establishments, which will clearly stipulate smoking in the following places:
- It is forbidden to smoke in outdoor places where minors and pregnant women are present;
- Smoking rooms are prohibited in all indoor places;
- All new products such as electronic cigarettes are prohibited in the category of non-smoking.
It is not difficult to see that the Italian government wants to strictly restrict from this generation and reduce the influence and induction of tobacco in their population in the next generation. According to Istat, there were about 10 million smokers aged 14 and over in 2021, with a higher proportion of smokers aged 25 to 44, accounting for about a quarter. About 50% of these smokers die prematurely, with an average loss of 14 years.
In addition to the risk that smokers are more likely to develop lung cancer, other cancers such as oral and throat cancer, esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, kidney cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and other cancers are also associated with smoking. There are also risk factors for certain types of leukemia, nonneoplastic respiratory diseases, asthma attacks, and cardiovascular risk. In fact, the mortality rate of smokers is about 3-5 times higher than that of non-smokers.
Therefore, if Europe wants to realize the anti-cancer plan, it must start with tobacco and slowly reduce the impact of tobacco on the next generation of children. Street smokers should also pay attention, the rules of smoking must be tightened immediately, to avoid future fines, and must remember this new decree!
