The story tells that before the death of the hostess, Miss Arundel, she made a will to leave all her property to her attendant, Miss Lawson, which caused a lot of discussion.

Before her death, Miss Arundel had secretly written to the grand detective Poirot, begging him to deal with the affairs of the family, and was eager to meet as soon as possible, and when Poirot arrived, he found that the old man had died, which made Poirot's detective work difficult.

Poirot and his assistant, Captain Hastings, conducted meticulous investigation and detective work on this, visiting everyone associated with Miss Arundel, listening to everything they said, but not gulliblely believing what anyone said. Poirot repeatedly stressed that whoever says it must be tested in practice and proven to be a fact before it can be believed.

After factual analysis, the use of logical reasoning and criminal psychology, this complex murder case was finally solved.

The novel exposes the ugly social phenomena of capitalist society in which deceit, money is omnipotent, and young people seek wealth and kill for the inheritance of inheritance.
