author:Menqing talked in the middle of the night

Short skirts, evening dress jeans, horizontal heels, baby t-shirts, bags, tube shirts, casual skirts - 90s and Y2K fashion unlike any period.

Since 2020, the fashion industry has experienced a strong recovery from some of the most prominent trends in two decades. However, there is another trend that has returned, proving that the fashion and Y2K of the 90s are not going away anytime soon. We are talking about the rise of the chained mail trend.

While the most popular trends first appeared in the 90s, the chain mail fashion actually first appeared around the 60s, a moment of reference for many early trends. With the boom of the space age, the 60s were the golden age of the most famous chain armor styles led by Paco Labana. He referred to medieval armor, combined with the unknown from space, as a ray of light that controlled the ability of metallic materials to make clothes that simulated galaxies, unlike anything seen at the time.

Chainmail really led the fashion world during the reign of supermodels (also known as Big Six) in the '90s, when every resident party girl wore eye-catching sekun dresses and jewelry and sold bars at night. The chain mail trend is undoubtedly spreading in the fashion world, especially after Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss attracted Versace mini dresses with silver chains. This trend continued throughout the 2000s, as Y2k figures such as Britney Spears and Paris Hilton wore knitted skirts.

Even at the end of Y2K, after Kendall Jenner recreated the style of Paris Hilton on her 21st birthday in 2016, the chain mail didn't completely disappear for long. Today, the trend of chain mail has undergone a modern change, not just explained in the form of short skirts, the look through many different items, including shirts, skirts, pants, and accessories.

In 2023, Hilton greeted the New Year with a red Secquin dress (as a gesture of gratitude for the iconic Julian MacDonald silver dress she wore at her 21st birthday party in 2002).
