In terms of changing the movie poster, the Korean designer's approach made me obey!
Original vs Korean version
Founded in Seoul in 2011, Pygmalion is a Korean design studio whose work includes film posters, television, performances, exhibition posters and type designs.
For the localization poster design of foreign language films, the usual practice is to retain the basic layout, carry out content translation, and unify the font style. This is one of Pygmalion's main jobs, but they re-analyze the content when dealing with many of the film's posters, re-select the material and recreate it to cater to the aesthetic style of the korean audience.
Next, let's take a look at the poster they designed:
The Dreamers
Official U.S. poster / Korean teaser poster, Korean version readjusted layout
Strangerland
Official poster of the United States / official poster of Korea,
The Korean version has re-selected materials to strengthen the sense of blockbusters and adjust the font style
Born to Be Blues main poster: Compared with the original poster on the right, the Korean version of the poster completely changed the tone, and the brighter color scheme highlighted the Korean small freshness.
"Call Me By Your Name" Hand-Painted Poster: A group of illustrated posters in bright tones, with a brilliant summer atmosphere.
"Call Me By Your Name" Korean version poster: the signature Korean fresh painting style, eye-catching composition.
"Female Addict" main poster: The blurry picture is more sensual?! On the right is the original poster.
The main poster of "Mo Di": The organic fusion of real scenes and paintings is exactly the picture in the mind of the Canadian folk female painter Mo Di.
Tribe: The clutter of sketch lines creates a sharp, rough texture that obscures the bare parts and inadvertently brings out a rough aesthetic.
"Foxfire" main poster: The Korean main poster uses a still different from the original French poster, and the retro filter can't help but be reminiscent of the Korean masterpiece "Sunshine Sister Tao". The design of the English title also refers to the film elements, which is much brighter than the original version.
"Foxfire" stills: This French film is really reminiscent of the Korean film "Sunshine Sister Tao".
Florida Paradise Main Poster: On the left and right are the official poster and trailer poster of the film. The Korean version of the poster in the middle follows the bright and nostalgic tones of the original poster, but chooses a more "sensational" moment.
Florida Paradise postcard posters: Two postcard posters that make people smile and warm their hearts.
