The sudden death of the 64-year-old Belarusian foreign minister seems to be about to turn into another "Rashomon".

According to foreign media reports quoted by the observer network, last weekend, the 64-year-old Belarusian Foreign Minister Makoi died suddenly, and Belarusian President Lukashenko suddenly changed the cooks and guards around him after his death, so many people began to speculate that Makhi may die of "poisoning", and the next target to be poisoned is Lukashenko.

In fact, this matter did not attract widespread attention at the beginning, because although Makei's identity is more sensitive, he is 64 years old after all, and it is reasonable to die due to some sudden illness. But his sudden death from a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the next day, just days before his death with Vatican representatives, suddenly disrupted Belarus' diplomatic arrangements.

The British "Daily Mail" also quoted wealthy Russian businessman Nevzlin shortly after his death as saying that Makei may have died from a poison developed by a special laboratory of Russia's National Security Service (FSB), which has symptoms similar to stroke or heart failure. Since Nevzlin had been close to Russian secret services but has now fled overseas, his words seem to have some credibility.

Markov, a former Kremlin adviser, said that if Makei died of poisoning, it would have been the Poles who poisoned him, because Poland asked Makei to betray Lukashenko, but Maxi refused. Samuel Ramani, an associate fellow at the Royal United Services Institute and an expert on the Middle East and Russia at the University of Oxford, said he had conducted an in-depth investigation with the Croatian palace and Belarusian authorities and believed that Makei was poisoned and assassinated by Poland during a meeting with Vatican representatives. Moreover, Samuel Ramani also said that the next target of the Polish assassination plan is Lukashenko, which is why Lukashenko changed his chef and guard. However, at present, the Belarusian media seem to have plans to calm the debate about the caliber of the "cause of death of Makhi" as "sudden heart attack", and as for why Lukashenko changed the service personnel, the Belarusian side has not responded for the time being.

(Makei has always had good relations with the Polish side)

It is no wonder that Makei's death has sparked a large number of conspiracy theories, because at the end of December 2020, the 49-year-old then Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister and Belarusian Ambassador to the United States Kravchenko also died suddenly, and the cause of death is still mysterious. The sudden death of a country's chief and deputy foreign minister in two years is indeed very much like the handiwork of the West, and since Makhi is a staunch supporter of Lukashenko, it seems logical that the West regards him as a thorn.

However, Makei has also been seen as a buffer and intermediary between Belarus and Western countries. According to public information, he studied at the Diplomatic Academy of the Austrian Foreign Ministry and served as the representative of Belarus to the European Union for a long time, so he has very deep contacts in Europe, so many people believe that he himself is more pro-Western than Russia, and his death may sever Lukashenko's ties with the West, leaving Lukashenko with no choice but to firmly stand on the side of Russia.

So in this way, both the West and Russia seem to have motives to attack Makei. Of course, before the matter is clearly investigated, there is no evidence for the views of both sides, I am afraid it can only be regarded as a "conspiracy theory", but it is clear that this matter has now caused a huge shock in Eastern Europe, and some people are panicked for a while, because no matter what preset position and political purpose it has, no one wants to see the Russian-Ukrainian conflict touch the red line of "assassination", and does not want to hear the "gunfire of Sarajevo" again...
