Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said archaeologists had found a group of mummies with golden tongues in their mouths in the Quweisna cemetery, which may be mythological tokens leading to the afterlife. Dr. Mustafa Vazri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Archaeology, reportedly said the mummies found in the Quweisna cemetery were poorly preserved, with some mummies with golden tongues in their mouths, others covered with thin pieces of gold and placed in wooden coffins.

There are also mummies wrapped in linen used in the embalming process, directly coated with gold on the bones.

In addition, gold pieces in the shape of cockroaches and lotus flowers were found, as well as some funeral ornaments, stone mortars and pottery that may have been used for embalming.
Archaeologists believe that the mummy's true tongue was removed during embalming and replaced with a gold item so that the deceased could speak to Osiris in the afterlife.
