"Zhang Dongliang's works evolve and detach from the outside in, breaking through the barriers of figuration and flying in the world of expression and even abstraction, giving people a unique aesthetic experience and novel feeling. Chinese contemporary expression and abstract painting are important artistic phenomena that influence the development of Chinese contemporary art concepts and gradually integrate into their own cultural background. Zhang Dongliang, who came from the academy, has solid skills and good literacy, and his long-term practice of figurative painting has gradually bred the desire to seek "change" and "new" in his heart. How to construct an independent linguistic order that more purely reflects the essence of painting, and provides people with a new perspective for viewing and understanding reality? It is the core issue that he painstakingly thinks about and pursues in his creation. Zhang Dongliang's series of works using landscape as the image are an organic whole that converges and "grows" by three "root veins". First, it comes from the traditional "growth". The study of Chinese calligraphy was the inspiration for these works, and Van Gogh's Starry Sky and Cézanne's geometric formal structure and open space structure have also become one of the potential roots. The work recreates the integration and reinvention of visible and perceptible nature and inner reflection, presenting the charm of "art has its own harmony" (Cézanne) in a free form that "goes hand in hand with nature", and its inheritance and transformation are both obvious and complementary. Second, "growth" from the heart. From a certain point of view, art is a spiritual inquiry for human survival, and the strong sense of life maintained in these works is sincere and moving. After reading Dongliang's works, I was very surprised and surprised. Because I knew that he was a painter trained in realistic painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, his technique was very complete, and his realism ability was very strong, and I was surprised to suddenly transform into such an art form and artistic language. In the past few days, I have been flipping through his works, I have been reading his works, then I feel a process of image transformation, like a mirror or an image reflected on the surface of the water, suddenly let it stir, stir a ripple on the surface of the water, the process of ripples, the evolution of the image from the process of figuration disappearing to this image now, is a transformation in his heart, a rhythm. His works are represented by figurative paintings and transformed into a kind of freeze frame in an abstract process. I think this is the first half of his kind of rebirth, that is, he is reborn, then the process of rebirth also requires him to continue to open up on the road of art, continue to break the phase, make this image simple, and finally form a presentation of its higher level, so I like his works very much and look forward to his future works.

Looking at his work for the first time today, I think his style is closer to what European and American called spiritual painting in the first half of the 20th century, in fact, it is neither abstract nor figurative, it is a Western-style.
