Bahnair launches the Better World sustainability programme

"China Civil Aviation News" and China Civil Aviation Network reporter Hu Xijiao reported: A few days ago, British Airways launched the "Better World" sustainable development project (BA Better World). It announced that from now on, UK travellers could take the lead in purchasing sustainable aviation fuel through the non-profit organisation Pure Leapfrog to reduce their carbon footprint. Bahang said it was a sign that the company was further fulfilling its commitment to sustainability at the heart of its business, taking on corporate responsibility, reducing carbon emissions and waste of resources and giving back to the community, thereby creating a better living environment for people.

Sean Doyle, CHIEF Executive officer and chairman of British Airways, said: "With the Better World programme, we will embark on our most important journey to date for a better future. We have detailed plans to ensure zero carbon emissions by 2050, including the introduction of energy-efficient models, operational efficiency improvements, and investment in sustainable aviation fuels. ”

At an event at London Heathrow Airport on 7 September, BRITISH airways showcased the new livery of its most modern and energy-efficient aircraft, the Airbus A320neo aircraft. The painting is related to the theme of sustainability and is new to the collaboration between British Airways and aircraft manufacturer Airbus. Julie Kitcher, Airbus' executive vice president of corporate affairs and communications and a member of the UK Government's Jet Zero Committee, said: "Compared to the Airbus A320ceo, the aircraft has reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 20% and noise by 50%. I can't wait to see it flying in the air in its new "uniform." ”

British Airways also announced at the event that it will work with BP to equip all flights between London, Glasgow and Edinburgh with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) during the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow in the second half of this year. It is worth mentioning that some of these flights will be operated by British Airways' newly painted Airbus A320neo. Sustainable aviation fuels used during the conference can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% over conventional aviation fuels.

The partnership with BP is an important step forward in BA's development and use of sustainable aviation fuels. British carrier International Aviation Group (IAG) will invest $40 billion over the next 20 years to support research and procurement of sustainable aviation fuels. Fuel companies working with British Airways also include Uk-based Velocys and US-based Lanza Jet. British Airways says it will use 10% of sustainable aviation fuels by 2030.

British Airways has long been working to lead the "decarbonisation" of the entire aviation industry. In 1992, it was the first airline to report its carbon footprint. In 2002, it was the first airline to participate in the UK's emissions trading. In 2019, its parent company became the first aviation group to commit to net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Last year, it became the first major airline to implement a voluntary carbon offset scheme for DOMESTIC FLIGHTS IN THE UK. By using renewable energy-powered tractors, first-class lounge covers and economy class kits made from recycled materials, and introducing lighter seats, carts, publications and flight brochures, BA has taken a number of steps to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
