"The Examination of the Mountain Festival" (1983 edition directed by Masahira Imamura)

author:I am reading the heart

I took advantage of the lunch and dinner time to double the speed of watching the 1983 version of the "Mountain Festival Examination". After watching it, I was deeply impressed by my mother Ah Lingbo in the play. The whole process of this mother is so calm, but also constantly to reduce the psychological burden of her son, all the aftermath of the family arranged one by one.

This is the result of weighing the choices. But it should also be said that the elderly have no choice at all, which is a helpless choice, although it is a tradition. After all, the environment is harsh, the resources are limited, and there is not enough to eat. That is why there are families who marry for food; there are families who are cruelly buried and stolen grain because of stealing grain; only when a new daughter-in-law arrives, she eats with her mouth open, and the old man immediately goes to crush his teeth; and only then is there a livestock that is worth more than human life.

The old man can always be so calm, because she knows and firmly believes that going up the mountain is a good thing, and it can reduce the burden on the family and future generations. That's all she could do.

At the end of the film, it snows, and the son is very happy, because after the snowfall, there should be less suffering for his mother, and he can die faster and more comfortably. As it is now, why do patients choose euthanasia, because dragging is a burden on everyone. How about living? It is very hard for patients, and it is not possible to solve the problem completely, and for the family, the high cost will become a burden or difficult to afford.

In contrast, at present, medical resources are relatively scarce and expensive, and how many families can afford it? Can't afford it, equivalent to waiting for death, isn't it like this old man? Even if it can be afforded, time and human resources are scarce, how to choose?

Thinking of myself, I thought that if I were the old mother, under such conditions, I would not want to drag my children and offspring, and I would also think of leaving a way for my children and offspring to live and leave a way back.
