Jiaolong brought back 11 large creatures from a depth of 5,000 meters

Xinhua News Agency's "Xiangyanghong 09" Ship, June 5 (Reporter Liu Shiping) The "Jiaolong" manned submersible went to sea in the rain on the 5th, completed the seventh dive of the third section of the 38th voyage of the Chinese Ocean, and brought back 11 large biological samples from the deep sea of more than 5,100 meters to more than 4,900 meters in the Yapu Trench.

This dive was the second time that jiaolong had dived in the Yapu Trench after diving in the rain on June 4, with a maximum diving depth of 5136 meters and an undersea operation of 3 hours and 8 minutes.

Jiaolong brought back rock samples from the bottom of the sea53. 8 kg, near bottom seawater 16 liters, sediment sample 9 tubes, 4 sea cucumbers of different species, 3 sea snake tails, 1 sponge, 1 starfish, 1 unknown organism, 1 sea cucumber using in situ fixation device. At the same time, the measurement of environmental parameters was completed, and a large number of high-definition video materials on the seabed were filmed.

Chen Xinhua, chief scientist of this flight, said that the samples brought back by the "Jiaolong" are extremely precious, and the biological samples provide a rare sample resource for understanding the distribution of large organisms in the Yapu Trench and studying the interaction mechanism between organisms and the environment.
