Today (November 15) is a sad day for the Chinese music industry, Mr. Jin Tielin, a famous vocal educator and former president of the China Conservatory of Music, passed away at the age of 83. Mr. Jin has made outstanding contributions to vocal education in China, he is one of the most accomplished vocal educators, and has cultivated many well-known singers such as Li Guyi, Song Zuying, Yan Weiwen, Dong Wenhua, Lv Jihong, Dai Yuqiang, Fang Qiong, Zhang Ye, Zu Hai, Wu Bixia, Li Danyang and many other well-known singers over the years.
Just now, the China Conservatory of Music released an obituary saying: "Comrade Jin Tielin, an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, a member of the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a famous vocal educator in the mainland, and former president of the China Conservatory of Music, died at 11:23 on November 15, 2022 in Beijing at the age of 83 due to ineffective medical treatment. According to the data, Mr. Jin Tielin was born in Harbin in 1940 in a family of doctors, but he was fascinated by music since he was a child. At that time, Jin Tielin liked guitar very much, and his recorded guitar performance was also recorded on Harbin Radio. Later, Jin Tielin originally planned to apply for the Shenyang Musicology and Composition Department, but to no avail. In August 1960, as the only admitee in Changchun Examination District, Jin Tielin was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music, the highest music school in the country at that time. In the Conservatory of Music, Mr. Jin Tielin studied under Professor Shen Xiang, a vocal music hero and drama tenor, and laid a solid foundation in vocal music. After graduating from the Conservatory, he was assigned to the Central Orchestra with honors and became a tenor.
In 1981, the newly established China Conservatory of Music invited Jin Tielin to work as a vocal teacher at the school. At that time, Jin Tielin faced a dilemma: on the one hand, the stage of applause and flowers, and on the other hand, the platform for teaching and educating people. Finally, with the encouragement of his mentor Professor Shen Xiang, Jin Tielin resolutely decided to teach at the China Conservatory of Music. Over the years, Mr. Jin Tielin has devoted himself to the exploration of national vocal music teaching, and through years of teaching practice, he has gradually explored a teaching path suitable for national singing.
However, Mr. Jin Tielin's becoming a teacher did not start at this time. In CCTV's "Art of Life", Professor Jin recalled: "When I was a student, I liked to listen to others singing, so I entered the teaching state very early. While studying music, I also began to tutor other students or young music lovers. In 1963, Professor Shen Xiang pushed two students who studied with him to him to be tutored, and a year later the students he tutored were admitted to the Conservatory of Music with excellent results, and it can be said that his teaching career began when he was a student.
In this program, Professor Jin recalled that when he was admitted to the Conservatory of Music, he didn't know what vocal music was? I also thought that the sound of vocal music was the blowing instrument "Sheng". When he learned that he was about to become a student of Professor Shen Xiang, he didn't even know whether Professor Shen Xiang was male or female? This is an interesting story recalled by Mr. Jin Tielin. Perhaps, no one would have thought that many years later, that "vocal little white" turned out to be another vocal hero after Professor Shen Xiang.
Mr. Jin Tielin once said that 100 people have 100 teachings, "Whether the students you teach are good or not, the audience can approve it." Perhaps few people have such high achievements in the field of vocal teaching, and the students he teaches such as Li Guyi, Song Zuying, Yan Weiwen, Dong Wenhua, Dai Yuqiang, Fang Qiong, Zhang Ye, Wu Bixia, Li Danyang, Wang Lida and so on, can be said to occupy at least half of the Chinese vocal music industry. Some of his students went on the artistic stage to sing, and like him, they walked to the three-foot podium to popularize and promote scientific vocal teaching theory. Some people compare Professor Jin Tielin to a "music magician", once carefully guided by him, one by one music newcomers grew rapidly, and in a short period of time, they could become household names and nationally renowned singers.
I have participated in two concerts by Mr. Jin Tielin and felt the strong teacher-student relationship that surpasses my father's love. One was the Jin Tielin Student Concert held at the National Culture Palace Theater in Beijing on December 8, 2008, and the other was the 50 Years of Professor by Mr. Jin at the Guoyin Hall of the China Conservatory of Music on December 9, 2013. The two concerts can be said to be star-studded, and almost all of them are household names on stage, and each singer is a proud protégé who has devoted all his heart. At the scene, whether it was Mr. Jin, who was sitting in the audience or being held by the stars on the stage, his face was full of relief and satisfaction. Today, Mr. Kim is gone, a sad day that is hard for his students to accept. However, behind Mr. Kim, his students will still fight on the stage and podium, continuing the art of their mentor in their own ways, continuing Mr. Kim's artistic life. Mr. Kim, heaven is disease-free, go all the way!
