In last night's Vienna semifinals, Medvedev defeated Dimitrov 6-4/6-2 to advance to the final. The victory brought his championship points to 3,855 and confirmed qualification for this year's year-end finals in Turin.
This is Medvedev's fourth consecutive qualification for the Nitto ATP Finals.
By the end of the season, there are still two Grand Final seats "vacant".
Medvedev, the sixth player to qualify in Turin, joins Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic.
Medvedev, who lifted the year-end finals trophy in 2020, will be working hard to win the tournament again. He currently holds a record of 9-4 in this prestigious tournament.
Medvedev has had mediocre results this season, of course, and that's just for himself. He won just one 250 tournament in Mexico, and earlier this year he reached his second consecutive final at the Australian Open.
On February 28 this year, Medvedev made his first ATP rankings. At 196cm tall, he became the tallest world No. 1 in history and the first player to reach the top of the world No. 1 since Andy Roddick in February 2004, outside the semi-finals of Nadal, Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray. He is the 27th world number one.
