The dragon lice that used to be common are really rare now

On the 22nd, the Baoshan Municipal Procuratorate, the Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, the Municipal Forestry and Grassland Bureau and the Baoshan Qinghuahai National Wetland Park Management Center jointly launched the "International Biodiversity Day" theme activity in Qinghuahai National Wetland Park, and many local citizens further learned about the rich "biodiversity" of Qinghuahai National Wetland Park from the activities.

According to the staff of Qinghuahai National Wetland Park, the species diversity of Qinghuahai National Wetland Park is one of the richer areas compared with other wetland parks of the same type in Yunnan. According to the latest monitoring statistics, there are 992 species of higher plants, 102 species of phytoplankton, 59 species of zooplankton, 41 species of benthic animals, 18 species of fish, 216 species of insects, 12 species of amphibians, 14 species of reptiles, 24 species of mammals, and 236 species of birds in Qinghuahai Wetland Park.

The first biodiversity representative species in the Qinghua Sea is the dragon lice, which is dwindling due to water pollution and overfishing, and is now less common in cities. The second is the blue-headed diving duck, which is listed on the IUCN's IUCN Red List of Species as "critically endangered", leaving only more than a thousand individuals smaller than the number of giant pandas. The third is the Baoshan Shinko lip fish. In Baoshan, many people should have heard or seen the fish that sniff melon seeds in The Temple. Its name is Baoshan Xinguang Lip Fish, which is a rare fish endemic to the Nu River Basin and one of the two species of fish named "Baoshan" in China's list of 1583 freshwater fish species (formerly known as "Baoshan Four-whiskered Catfish"), which is only distributed in extremely narrow areas. The fourth is the pink green foxtail algae, which belongs to the invasive alien species of the Qinghua Sea, which grows rapidly, has strong adaptability, often grows in large areas, easily causes water hypoxia, affects the growth of other aquatic plants, and when it is serious, it will cause the deterioration of the structure of the water ecosystem, destroy the ecological balance, and need to be salvaged regularly.

The staff said: "In the next step, we will do a good job in the conservation of biodiversity in the Qinghua Sea from three aspects. The first is to continue to protect existing species and focus on the protection and management of birds. The second is to do a good job in removing invasive alien species such as Fushou snail, pink-green foxtail algae, Brazilian turtle, and American bullfrog to prevent the rapid growth of populations due to the lack of natural enemies of these species, which threatens the biodiversity security of the Qinghua Sea. The third is to carry out the protection and breeding of indigenous rare species, so that rare species such as Baoshan Xinguang Lip Fish, Baoshan Split-bellied Fish, and First-class Key Protected Wild Plant Lettuce will gradually return to the Qinghua Sea.
