South Africa Travels (10) Johannesburg - the world's most crime-prone horror capital

author:Hangzhou Old Wei

After visiting the South African Ancestors Memorial, we left Pretoria and drove directly to Johannesburg. We are going to a Chinese restaurant in Johannesburg, "Lotus Garden Restaurant" for dinner.

Johannesburg (English: Johannesburg), referred to as Joburg (English: Joburg), is the capital of Gauteng Province of the Republic of South Africa, the famous "Golden City", is the economic, cultural and tourism center of the Republic of South Africa, and a world-famous international metropolis. Johannesburg was founded in 1886 as a prospecting station and developed into a city with the discovery and mining of gold.

One day in 1886, George Harrison, who was working on a farm north of Johannesburg, was tripped over a stone exposed to the ground while walking, and he got up, saw the stone shining gold, knocked out a little fragment and brought it back to the farm, and sure enough, the glittering gold sand was washed in the basin of water, and the largest gold vein on earth was discovered.

When the news broke, gold prospectors from all over the world flooded in, and 14 gold mining areas were built here, and the White Water Slant set off a gold rush. The tranquility of the idyllic setting was replaced almost overnight by the hustle and bustle. As the number of gold diggers grew, it became a populated settlement. The government of the Republic of South Africa at the time sent personnel to tour the area, looking for a place to establish a municipality. The two men assigned to this mission were a Dutch immigrant named Johann Rissik and a Boer named Christian Johannes Joubert. It is said that the city was founded after their names, Johann and Johannes, plus the suffix burg for "city, town", so that today's Johannesburg (Johannesburg) came into view.

We had dinner at Lotus Chinese Restaurat. I heard that the owner of Lotus Garden Restaurant has been operating in South Africa for many years and hired black security guards for security. There were two black security guards in Tang costumes standing at the entrance of the restaurant, which was a little funny.

The restaurant is not small and the meals are good.

After dinner, I walked to a fork in the road not far from the hotel and saw several young blacks drunkenly drinking and dropping wine bottles. I was a little scared to see it, so I quickly dodged it.

After the meal we checked into the Protea Hotel Parktonian All Suite.

The front foot walked into the hotel, and the hotel security guard on the back foot closed the big iron gate and did not allow us to go out. It is said that this is the request of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, which is a little scary!

Johannesburg is the terror capital with the highest crime rate in the world. Under the dazzling sun of southern Africa, beneath the surface of prosperity, lies evil. South Africa's unemployment rate is as high as 40%, and the vast majority of the unemployed army is unskilled and poorly educated blacks. The deterioration of law and order has made robberies common, forcing the upper middle class or large capital companies representing South Africa to move to the northern suburbs, and urban functions continue to move to the suburbs. In addition, risk-fearing foreign capital has also moved outward, causing restaurants, clubs, nightclubs, etc. in the city to close their doors one after another.

Can't go out, what for? Fortunately, there is a swimming pool on the top floor of the hotel.

We went up to the top floor, which was an outdoor pool in the middle and surrounded by a circle of platforms. Brother Yao went into the water to swim, and I filmed on the platform. As far as the eye can see, Johannesburg is still beautiful in the sunset.
