Whistle official announcement! The Rockets signed starting point guard Kevin Porter to a four-year, $82.5 million contract.

According to Sports' Kelly Iko and Shams Charania, the Houston Rockets just signed a four-year, $82.5 million contract extension with point guard Kevin Porter.

According to media reports on Monday, the guaranteed starting salary of the contract reached $15.9 million in the 2022-23 season, and it is only guaranteed in the first season. The Rockets have a deadline before the start of each subsequent season to cut Porter without financial penalties. The full terms of the final three years of the Porter deal have not been announced.

Porter, 22, played 61 games for the Rockets' point guard between 2021 and 2022. He averaged 15.6 points and 6.2 assists last season while shooting a career-high 37.5 percent from three-point range. He was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the No. 30 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and came to Houston in 2021 for a trade that was almost for nothing.

This contract marks a significant investment in Porter by the Rockets. Porter, from USC, has had occasional moments of brilliance and immaturity in his short career, including a quarrel in January. At the time, Porter left Toyota Center in the middle of a game after a locker room dispute with his coach.

However, despite Porter's mental immaturity, he showed a lot of starting ability in the position of point guard. In the final seven games of last season, he averaged 28.7 points per game. In 2021, he became the youngest player in NBA history to score 50 points and assist 10 times in a single game.

In recent years, the coaching staff of the Houston Rockets has invested a lot of time in Porter's development. Porter has become close to head coach Stephen Silas and assistant coach John Lucas, a point guard highlighted at the team's media day in September. Now, Porter will be the Rockets' future point guard. Do you think this contract is worth it?
