Hello everyone, I'm Lantai.

Today Lantai would like to introduce to you one of the most prominent female stars in Hong Kong in the 50s of the 20th century, how prominent is her life?

Her godfather is Li Zongren, her father-in-law is Long Yun, the "King of Yunnan" during the Republic of China, and after the founding of New China, Long Yun was the vice chairman of the National Defense Commission and a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and the vice chairman of the National Defense Commission was a third-level administrative position; The third level of administration is the level of vice premier, which is also known as the "vice national level".

Lin Dai's father, Cheng Siyuan, is not only a close friend of Li Zongren, but also elected vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People's Congress in 1993, also a vice national-level position.

So, since Lin Dai's father-in-law and father have held vice-national positions in New China, how did she become the most beautiful movie star in Hong Kong in the 1950s?

Lin Dai was born in Nanning, Guangxi in 1934. Lin Dai's real name is Cheng Yueru, originally from Dacheng Village, Daqiao Township, Binyang County, Guangxi. "Lin Dai" is the transliteration and stage name of her English name Linda.

Lin Dai's father was Cheng Siyuan, who can be said to be the most trusted "strategist" of Li Zongren and Bai Chongxi, and in 1930, at the age of 22, Cheng Siyuan served as the secretary of Li Zongren, who was already the commander-in-chief of the Kuomintang Fourth Army at the time.

After the Jiang-Gui War and the crushing defeat of the Gui family, Li Zongren arranged for Cheng Siyuan to study in the Political Science Department of the University of Rome in Italy; And Lin Dai was born before Cheng Siyuan studied abroad. In 1938, after Cheng Siyuan returned to China with a doctorate from the University of Rome, he was immediately appointed as the secretary of the office by Bai Chongxi, then deputy chief of general staff of the Kuomintang.

With Cheng Siyuan's status in the "Gui family" at that time, although Lin Dai experienced the "Anti-Japanese War" as a teenager, he was also carefree.

The only regret is that the marriage between Cheng Siyuan and Lin Dai's mother Jiang Xiuhua was a typical arranged marriage during the Republic of China, so after Cheng Siyuan returned to China, the two gradually drifted apart, although there was no clear divorce, but the two had indeed separated.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Cheng Siyuan arranged for his daughter Lin Dai to study in the best girls' middle school in Nanjing at that time.

It's funny to say, Cheng Siyuan's second wife, Shi Hong, was chased by Lin Dai with her father; At that time, the young Shi Hong wanted to meet the big star Hu Die, but at that time, Hu Die was not willing to have more contact with the outside world, and Shi Hong naturally could not see him; But it is very difficult for Shi Hong, for Cheng Siyuan's beloved daughter Lin Dai, it is not difficult, her father himself is a high-ranking official of the Kuomintang and knows many high-ranking official friends, Lin Dai easily met Hu Die with Shi Hong.

After this incident, Shi Hong and Lin Dai became good friends, and later Shi Hong broke up with her boyfriend, Lin Dai "hard" to help her father beat the side drum, originally Shi Hong had a hazy liking for the talented Cheng Siyuan, plus "best friend" Lin Dai has always helped her father say good things, so she also accepted Cheng Siyuan's pursuit.

Later, after Lin Dai saw Hu Die, she also talked about this interesting story.

In July 1949, the Kuomintang was already weakening and the rivers were as follows, so Cheng Siyuan moved to Hong Kong with his family.

Cheng Siyuan was hired as a columnist for Hong Kong's Noon News, while Lin Dai began a few months of high school at Heung Kong Secondary School and later transferred to Leiden College.

Lin Dai's path from the shadow is derived from a set of photographs.

In early 1950, Lin Dai took a series of photographs at a Hong Kong photo studio, one of which was enlarged and hung in a street-facing window. The Lin Dai in the photo has an elegant temperament and stands tall. Great Wall Film director Yuan Yangan saw the photo, found Lin Dai, who was still in high school, asked her to audition and signed a one-year contract with her. Lin Dai just got started and failed to be reused by Great Wall Film Company, and then she joined Yonghua Company and entered New Asia College for further study in the second half of the year. This really began her film and television career.

At that time, when the old and the new were changing, many people from all over the country came to Hong Kong for various reasons, these people did not speak Cantonese, and did not like to watch Cantonese movies, which became the opportunity for Chinese films to flourish in Hong Kong in the 1950s.

Lin Dai was not only beautiful, but also proficient in English, Chinese and Cantonese, which perfectly suited the needs of the society at that time, and became a famous star in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia in just a few years.

Lin Dai has won a total of 6 awards at various film festivals.

In 1957, at the age of 23, she won the Best Actress Award at the 4th Asia-Pacific Film Festival for successfully playing two roles with different personalities in the movie "Golden Lotus", becoming the youngest actress at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival and the first Hong Kong Chinese actress to win the international "actress" award.

Immediately afterwards, in 1958, Lin Dai starred in the singing film "Sable Cicada" in Huangmei tune, in 1961 she starred in "A Thousand Girls", in 1962, she was named the "Queen" of the 5th, 8th and 9th Asia-Pacific Film Festivals for starring in "No Love", and won the "Golden Dragon Award" at the 5th Asia-Pacific Film Festival and the Special Memorial Award at the 13th Asia-Pacific Film Festival.

In 1958, the Department of Drama of Columbia University accepted Lin Dai as an honorary student.

The New York Times said of her: "One Lindy is worth twenty-five Suth Parker, eight Janemansfield, and a large number of Marilyn Monroe." ”

However, compared with Lin Dai's great artistic achievements, Lin Dai is very emotionally unsmooth.

This is related to Lin Dai's personality.

Lin Dai has been very insecure since she was a child because of her parents' emotional discord; At the same time, because her father is a high-ranking official of the "Gui family", she was regarded as the daughter of high-ranking officials throughout her adolescence, even if she came to Hong Kong, she became a household name in Hong Kong in just two years, along the way, her life was too smooth, which made her not strong ability to resist pressure while loving to dictate and go to extremes.

Lin Dai's first suicide occurred at the age of 17, when she just entered the entertainment industry, because the company decided to give her role to another actress, she committed suicide by taking sleeping pills in a rage, but fortunately her friend even sent her to the hospital for medical treatment.

This may have also set the stage for her later suicide.

In 1958, while studying at Columbia University in the United States, Lin Dai met Long Shenxun, who was studying for a doctorate at the same school, and fell in love. Long Shenxun is the son of Long Yun, the "King of Yunnan" during the Republic of China.

Lin Dai later officially married Long Shenxun on February 12, 1961.

Yet this was the beginning of her tragedy.

It would be unfair if we blamed Lin Dai's death on Long Shenxun; But the character of the playboy of Long Rope is undoubtedly the main reason for Lin Dai's final suicide.

As mentioned earlier, Lin Dai is very eager to be loved and has a strong desire to control because of her parents' discord, she does not want to repeat the mistake of her mother being abandoned by her father, so she often restricts Long Shenxun's behavior, which makes the grumpy Long Shenxun of Gongzi very dissatisfied, and the two often quarrel.

At the same time, Lin Dai also faced fierce competition in her career at that time, and because her achievements were too brilliant, she could not accept her failure.

Cheng Siyuan once commented on his daughter: more than intelligent, not strong enough. He said: "The higher Lin Dai's status in the film industry, the more isolated her ideology feels, and the more her psychological development is out of touch with the real society." Over the years, she has neglected the pursuit of wealth, let alone the maintenance of honor, and her inner tension has been breathless, which has greatly affected her family life, that is, her temper is too big to serve. ”

On July 16, 1964, Lin Dai was ridiculed as a heroine by the staff in the company because several major Hong Kong directors such as Li Hanxiang and others at that time did not invite herself to be the heroine in several plays in succession, and as a result, she was ridiculed by the staff in the company who had always had conflicts with her; Lin Dai wanted to show her Asian actress demeanor outside, and did not take care of this person.

But the sarcasm of this staff did speak to Lin Dai's heart, and she did have such worries; When Lin Dai came home and saw her husband, she couldn't help but quarrel with her husband over some small things.

In fact, this is also normal, people will hurt their closest relatives.

It's just that Long Shenxun was originally the temper of the eldest young master, where could he stand this, so he quarreled with Lin Dai.

Lin Dai didn't really want to die at that time, but his temper came up, gambling like taking a lot of sleeping pills, and also plugging the door, Long Shenxun knocked on the door several times to see Lin Dai did not open the door, thinking that Lin Dai was still angry, and only found out the next morning that something was wrong, and when he smashed the door and entered, Lin Dai had already disappeared.

Why does Lin Dai not really want to die?

It was because Lin Dai left a note for her husband after taking sleeping pills:

If you really want to save me, please don't send me to a public hospital, because then the newspapers in Hong Kong will be published as a joke! Only find a personal doctor, thank you!

It can be seen that Lin Dai really doesn't want to die, but she didn't expect her to casually insert the latch and let her die Huang Quan.

In fact, before Lin Dai committed suicide, Premier Zhou received Lin Dai's father Cheng Siyuan in Beijing, and when mentioning Lin Dai, Premier Zhou also said that the development of the motherland's literary and artistic undertakings needs more talents, and hoped that Lin Dai could return to the mainland and contribute to the development of the national film industry.

Unexpectedly, when Mr. Cheng Siyuan returned to Hong Kong, he was greeted by the bad news of his daughter's suicide.

A year after Lin Dai committed suicide, Cheng Siyuan and his wife accompanied Li Zongren back to the motherland and settled in Beijing; He has successively served as chairman of the China Association for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification, vice chairman of the National Committee for the Reunification of the Motherland of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, honorary president of the first session of the China Overseas Friendship Association, president of the China International Association for the Promotion of Science and Technology, and chairman of the fourth council of the National Taiwan Studies Association. In March 1993, Cheng Siyuan was elected vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People's Congress.

And Lin Dai's husband Long Shenxun because of Lin Dai's death, can be said to be "washing his heart and changing his face", farewell to the "lights and wine", concentrating on raising his and Lin Dai's children at home, Long Shenxun died in Hong Kong in 2007, and before that, as early as 1962, Long Shenxun's father Long Yun had died of illness in Beijing.
