Journalist Fabrizio Romano has some insight into Rafael Leao's contract extension, describing it as a "dangerous" situation for AC Milan.
Leo is currently at the center of a lot of speculation as his contract expires in June 2024, meaning that if he does not extend his contract at Milan, by next summer's transfer window, his contract will be less than a year away.
The following season, he reached double digits in goals and assists in all competitions at AC Milan and was named Serie A MVP in Serie A, and it is not surprising that teams such as Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have taken an interest in him.
Now, Romano has expressed his views on the situation on the show, suggesting that Leo could stay a little longer for another year or two before leaving AC Milan to join another elite club in Europe.
"It's not an easy negotiation because Leo is special. He was the best player in Serie A last season and I feel the same thing will happen this season because he did a good job," he said.
"We have to respect AC Milan's position because at the same time Paul Maldini has said once again that we are in talks with Rafael Leo and want to extend his contract. The current contract expires in June 2024, so this is a dangerous situation as AC Milan can't spend much time completing a contract extension with Leo.
"AC Milan have lost a lot of players in free transfers, Donnarumma, Casey, Chalhanolu. Many players have left for free, so they have to be careful with this situation. But at the same time, they believe the player knows that perhaps another season at Milan could be the best way for him to reach Europe's top level.
"So the negotiations are still ongoing, but not close to agreement or completion – still in the early stages of negotiations." Let's see what happens because it's still open. ”
