On the night of the crime, there were seven people in the No. 42 courtyard where Tan Furen was located, in addition to Tan Furen and his wife, Wang Wenying, the sister of his wife Wang Liyan, his unmarried daughter-in-law Wu Xiaohong, two guards and a nanny.
According to the descriptions of the personnel present and the reasoning of the special case team personnel, the situation on the night of the incident was basically restored.
On the evening of December 17, after the murderer entered the courtyard with a gun over the wall, he went directly to Tan Furen's room on the second floor. He did not know that Tan Furen was not in the room at that time, and was resting in the living room on the second floor, and the murderer happened to meet Tan Furen's wife, Wang Liyan.

After hearing the gunshots, Tan Furen heard the sound. When the murderer saw the situation, he hurriedly overtook Tan Furen and shot him, and a shot hit Tan Furen in the abdomen, and Tan Furen did not carry a weapon with him at the time, so he could only run downstairs to avoid the killing.
Tan Furen shouted as he ran, "Here comes the man! Come! But only met his sister Wang Wenying, who lived downstairs, and Wang Wenying asked him what had happened, and Tan Furen did not have time to say much before he ran towards the guard's residence.
The murderer also rushed down from the stairs, and as soon as Wang Wenying turned around, the murderer pushed him away and continued to shoot at Tan Furen. Tan Fu Renmi knocked on the guard's door without responding, so he staggered toward the courtyard.
The murderer quickly chased to the door and fired several shots, and Tan Furen fell down in response. When he came to the courtyard and saw that Tan Furen had been shot, the murderer hurriedly climbed up the wall and left.
As soon as the gunshot rang out, it attracted the attention of the military sentry, and Wu Xiaohong also reported the case to Zou Xianyu, the secretary on duty at the time. Wang Wenying stood by the remains of his sister Wang Liyan and brother-in-law Tan Furen, and talked to the sentry who came to talk about the appearance of the murderer.

This Xiao Li used to be a service soldier, because the military region did not have enough manpower at that time, so he let him be a guard. What about the other one? Wang Kexue then went to the other rooms until he opened the bathroom door and found another guard.
However, he was not alone, and there was a disheveled nanny behind him. Wang Kexue asked him what had happened, and he kept his head bowed and remained silent, until later, when the special case team investigated, he explained the events of the night of the incident.
When Tan Furen went downstairs to find the guards, it was his door that knocked. But at that time, he and his nanny, who was 30 years older than him, were warming up in bed.
The nanny was nearly 30 years older than him, she was originally the wife of an officer of a Kuomintang officer, and after the liberation of the officer fled to Taiwan, she was arranged to work as a nanny in the military region as a family member.
This guard was often by the chief's side, so he had a secret affair with this nanny when he came and went. When he heard the chief's knock on the door, he thought that someone had come to catch them committing adultery, and closed the door for fear that he and the nanny would not be opened.
After the murderer succeeded, he heard no voice and went out to check, saw that the chief had been killed, and feared that the adultery would be exposed, he dragged the nanny to the bathroom to hide, and did not come out until Wang Kexue found it.
This incident shocked the leaders and members of the task force present, and in addition to surprise, it was more anger. As the chief's guard, one was so frightened that he hid in the room and did not dare to come out, and the other actually committed adultery with the nanny when the chief was in danger.
If the guards had not left their posts without permission, Lieutenant General Tan Furen would have been spared.
But the members of the task force were too late to deal with the two guards, because the murderer had not yet been caught, and the truth of the matter had not yet been revealed. Under the instructions of Premier Zhou, the leaders of the military region and the special case group began to find clues.

In order to catch the murderer, the members of the special case team conducted an investigation at the scene and related personnel, and collected many clues.
Wang Wenying, the sister of Lady Tan Furen, said: "He wears a military uniform, is tall, white and fat..."; Outside the wall where the murderer escaped over the wall, there was a shoe print of the liberation rubber shoe, and the fingerprints of the murderer were found on the door of the room where Wang Liyan was killed.

So the work of identifying the murderers began to be carried out within the Cong Military Region. The special case group and the leaders of the military region stipulated that all military personnel or family members who live in the compound of the military region, no matter how old they are or how senior they are, must clearly explain where they were on the night of the incident.
Since it was initially determined that it was the work of personnel inside the military region and that they were also armed with guns, the members of the task force began to investigate around the guns. Sure enough, two pistols were found missing in the Military Region Security Department, and the model of the pistol was the same as the shell casing model at the scene of the crime.
After several days of investigation, the special case group and the person in charge of the military region concluded that the murderer was not only very familiar with the use of firearms, but also very familiar with the situation of Tan Furen's family, and could also freely enter and leave the military region's compound.
After checking back and forth, it was still determined that there was a situation inside, and one night in the originally calm Kunming Military Region, people became panicked.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, in order to prevent the murderer from fleeing to other places, the Kunming Military Region organized troops to start a "carpet search." All railway stations are under martial law, as if entering a wartime state.

Premier Zhou was very concerned about this matter, and the special case team did not find the murderer for several consecutive days, which made Premier Zhou very angry and once again made clear instructions:
"The problem is serious internally, find out the real culprit as soon as possible!"
Under the pressure of Premier Zhou and facing one clue after another, the members of the task force could not do anything. We can only investigate from the source again, and once again check the entry and exit records of personnel in the military region's compound, and this time the investigation finally has an eyebrow.

In the process of checking the residents of the military region's compound, almost everyone was able to explain their whereabouts that night, but only one person could not prove their location and whereabouts at that time -- Wang Zizheng, deputy chief of the security section of the military region's security department.
However, although this person could not prove his whereabouts, there were legitimate reasons to prove that he was not present, because Wang Zizheng was in this period and had been isolated and examined.
The reason for his quarantine review was that in early 1970, he was appointed deputy section chief, and not long after taking office, the Kunming Military Region received an "official letter" from his hometown.
The official letter concerned his involvement in the counter-revolutionary operation of shooting and killing the village chief in 1946, after which he changed his former name Wang Zhizheng to Wang Zizheng and blended into the Kunming Military Region.

Therefore, for this reason, the military region decided to conduct an isolation examination of Wang Zizheng and imprisoned him in the prisoner management office of the military region's compound.
Although he had the reason of being isolated and examined to prove that he could not commit the crime, only he was suspected within the military region, so the special case team began to start from him.
In the course of the investigation, the task force received a call from a 13-year-old child in the military compound, Ma Suhong, who wanted to provide clues. Ma Suhong said:
"On the 17th, a man in military uniform knocked on the door of his house and said that he was looking for the chief of the Chen Hanzhong section of the Security Department, so I pointed him out the door and went to sleep, he looked like Wang Dongkun's father."
When the task force heard this, they immediately showed him Wang Zizheng's photo, and Ma Suhong said, "That's him!" That's him! ”。 After all, it was to check the internal personnel of the military region, even the cadres who were isolated and examined had to be rigorous, so the special case team took Ma Suhong to the management office.
At the management office, the task force secretly asked Ma Suhong to identify the person that night, and he saw Wang Zizheng in the corner at a glance, and once again said that it was him. Wang Zizheng also noticed it at this time, so he turned his back.
The person in charge of the special case team believes that Wang Zizheng is the murderer of this case. In order to find out the truth, the task force decided to let the personnel of the Ministry of Security go directly to him to verify the situation and see his reaction.

On the evening of December 31, Chen Hanzhong, chief of the security section, and Li Bozhi, the officer, came to Wang Zizheng's isolation room, and as soon as they entered the door, they saw Wang Zizheng lying on the bed sleeping, and Chen Hanzhong said:
"Wang Zizheng, get up, go to the canteen now, I have something to ask you."
After saying that, Wang Zizheng got up and put on his shoes, and suddenly, Wang Zizheng pulled out two pistols from his bed and shot at the two unsuspecting people at the door.
Before Li Bozhi could react, he was already at the end, and Chen Hanzhong ran out of the door with the gun in his right hand. In the street, Chen Hanzhong shouted for help and ran to the distance, but Wang Zizheng gave him a chance, and two shots were fired, and Chen Hanzhong fell to the ground in response.
Then the soldiers of the military region heard the gunshots and rushed over, and Wang Zizheng turned and fled to the toilet. The fighters surrounded the toilet and called on him to lay down his arms.
Seeing the stalemate, when the warriors were about to attack, Wang Zizheng suddenly kicked the door open and shot himself.
After the firmness of the security department, Wang Zizheng had the gun in his hand, which were the two lost in the security department. One he used to commit suicide, the other one he threw into the toilet and was later pulled out.
The bullet type of the gun is exactly the same as that of Tan Furen and his wife on the spot, and it can be determined that he is the murderer. As for his motives for the killing, the members of the task force also found the answer in his notebook.
Wang Zizheng held a grudge against the military region for isolating him, and wrote in his notebook:
"I can't just die like this, even if I die, I'll have to pull a few cushions."

On one page of his notebook were written many names he was going to kill, including the deputy commander of the military district and others. On another page, another sentence was written: "It is better to kill these people than to kill Tan Furen, so that the impact is greater and more able to vent hatred." ”
So at 4:00 a.m. on December 17, 1970, Wang Zizheng sneaked out of the management center that was quarantined and censored and went to the compound of the military region.
As the deputy chief of the security department, he was familiar with the place where the guns of the military district security department were stored, and he knew how to avoid the guards, and even knew how to relax the guards in the middle of the night.
He pried open the safe where he stored his gun, took two pistols and 20 rounds of ammunition, and prepared to begin his assassination plan.
Originally, there were wolfhounds outside Building 42, but because of the combat readiness camping exercises at that time, the wolfhounds at the door were pulled away, resulting in Wang Zizheng being able to quietly enter the courtyard.
When he came to the courtyard, he used to work as a security guard, and he knew very well where Tan Furen's bedroom was. It so happened that Tan Furen was not in the bedroom, so he threatened Tan Furen's wife Wang Liyan in the bedroom, and Wang Liyan did not say anything out of his heart to protect her husband, and Wang Zizheng shot him.
What happened afterwards was exactly the same as the members of the task force at the beginning, all of which were the actions of Wang Zizheng.
Commissar Tan Furen did not die on the battlefield, but in his own home. The dereliction of duty of the guards and the brutality of Wang Zizheng caused this high-ranking general with outstanding merit to fall into a pool of blood.
After killing Tan Furen, Wang Zizheng climbed over the wall to assassinate his second target, Chen Hanzhong, chief of the defense department of the political department of the military region.
Wang Zizheng believes that after the Political Department of the Military Region received a whistle-blowing letter about him, it was Chief Chen Hanzhong who reported his problems to the organization, which led to his being isolated and examined. Because of this, he hated Chen Hanzhong very much, so he targeted Chen Hanzhong as the second target.
However, because it was unusually dark in the early hours of the morning, he was not sure of the location of Chen Hanzhong's residence, so he knocked on the door of the little boy Ma Suhong's house who provided clues, and Ma Suhong was also very confused at that time, so he pointed out the way for Wang Zizheng.
Fortunately, Chen Hanzhong happened to be on a business trip to Shanghai that night, and Wang Zizheng did not see his figure when he came to his home, so he could only quietly return to the military regional management office.
Unexpectedly, it was this child who made his seamless plan come to light.
With the suicide of Wang Zizheng, the murder of Tan Furen and his wife was temporarily ended.
In 1971, another regrettable thing happened to the case task force, and Jing Rulin, a member of the special case team and director of the Kunming Military Region's Security Department, put a nylon net around his neck and hanged himself in the room, leaving his last words on the table:
"The Ministry of Defense originally had problems, and I didn't improve it after I came to the Ministry of Defense, and now that the Ministry of Defense has come up with this incident, I can't say it clearly."
Minister Jing Rulin, out of guilt over the matter, ended his life in the spring of 1971.

Finally, when Wang Zizheng was arrested, he actually let Wang Zizheng kill the cadres of the Ministry of Security who went to investigate, which was also the dereliction of duty of the members of the special case group, and after finding out the origin of the matter, the person in charge of the special case team personally reported to Premier Zhou and deeply reflected on his mistakes.
Judging from the whole case, in addition to Wang Zizheng, who caused Tan Furen's murder, there were actually the two guards who neglected their duties. As the chief guard, hearing the gunshots did not protect the chief at the first time, but chose to avoid, and even did something unethical.
Wang Zizheng was able to escape from the administrative office of quarantine and review, and also bypassed the pistol of the guard to get to the security office, so that the illegal people were so rampant inside the military region, reflecting the discipline that was neglected at that time.
This case is a testament to the awareness that even in peacetime we must be aware of problems before they occur, and this case is the best example. Blind laxity, no discipline and no rules will only lead to catastrophe.
For the disposition of Tan Furen's two guards, the author only found that he was dismissed from his post and investigated, but as a guard, he made such a mistake and should be punished accordingly.
