Bolaño Universe

A few days ago, Roberto Bola o's six-volume French translation, fully launched by Olivier Publishing House, has been published for two years and a few months since the first volume was published. The first four volumes of the six-volume French translation consist of several original works, such as the first volume containing a collection of poems, novels, and short stories, and the fifth and sixth volumes of Los detectives salvajes and 2666, respectively. Wilderness Detective 2666 was translated by Roberto Amutio, while the first four volumes were translated by Roberto Amutio and Jean-Marie-Saint-Lou.

Bolaño's craze began after his death, reaching a small peak in 2008 when "2666" won the National Book Critics Association Award and in 2013 with the solo exhibition "Bolaño Files: 1977-2003". At present, Bolaño is on the same side as the world literature writers he once admired. This is very different from what happened to Bolaño before his death. During his lifetime, "Estrella Distante" and "Wilderness Detective" won Bolaño a lot of applause, but both the honor and the sales were far lower than they are today.

Roberto Polanio

Javier Moreno made a geometric illustration of all of Bolaño's works. In this illustration, "Chilean Night", "2666", "Wilderness Detective", and "Amulet" occupy four vertices respectively, and the intersection of the extension line near "2666" points to Bolaño's most ideal work. Bolaño's other works exist in a triangle of five works. Exploding figures, vast environments, and a great deal of detail and imagination, along with the works in which they exist, make up the Bola overse universe.

Jody Bonaire's description of the Bolaño universe is more graphic. He believed that Bolaño's literature was "cannibalistic" literature, in which characters enjoyed their writers through their works, and the writer Bolaño treated his characters in the same way. What the reader feels is the martyr, the man, the sacrifice, the Trinity, the circulation and sharing, constantly becoming another self. In addition, Jan Etienne and Jody Bonaire co-authored a six-volume long book review of the French translation, Bolaño in the Convex Mirror, published in Cross Criticism. Jan Etienne peruses most of the six-volume work. "Literature is his fortress, his country, his space." Jan Etienne said. For Hu, Bolaño's 2666 is an infinitely magnified version of Borges's proposal of "the second power of literature."

The Bolaño universe is still expanding, and the collation and publication of new archives is ongoing. In 2016, Bolaño's executor, his wife Carolina López, replaced the original publisher Anagrama Publishing House with The Alpha Guara Publishing House, which belongs to Penguin Landen, on business grounds. Previously, Anagrama's publisher, Jorge Herald, was Polanio's most important editor, responsible for publishing several works, including 2666. Shortly after representing Bolaño, the Alpha Guara published two posthumous works, El espíritu de la ciencia-ficción (Spirit of Science Fiction) and Sepulcros de vaqueros (Cowboy Cemetery).

A few days ago, Chris Bauer criticized the exploding Bolaño universe, which he called the Bola o industry. Stripping away La literatura nazi en América, Distant Stars, The Wilderness Detective, Amuleto, Nocturno de Chile, 2666, and some of Bolaño's poems, Chris Bauer did not consider it advisable to massively augment Bolaño's literary fragments. Do the new texts, determined by the will of the market and the tendencies of archaeology, contain works that are contrary to Bolaño's intentions and acceptability, or even those that Bolaño rejects? Will these works infringe on Bolaño's other works? And if the answer is yes, does this violate the inner norms of the Bolaño universe? Still, Chris Bauer's concerns and criticisms don't undermine Bolaño's cultural value to the world.

The Netanyahus: Joshua Cohen's Quest for the Jewish Spirit

Joshua Cohen's sixth novel, The Netanyahus, won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Currently, Joshua Cohen is the youngest of the Pulitzer Prize winners for fiction, born in 1980 and broadly belonging to millennials.

Netanyahu can be classified as a historical novel, a campus novel, and it mainly deals with the Palestinian-Israeli issue and American exceptionalism. The number one person in The Netanyahus is the Jewish historian Benzion Netanyahu, who is based on the real Benzion Netanyahu in history. Benzion was a well-known Zionist who believed that the history of the Jews was the history of the Holocaust. Benzion felt deeply that he had been abandoned by history, that he was disgusted by all this, and that he tried to try what he could not accomplish, to achieve what he had been deprived of, in retaliation for those who rebuked him. Benzion's second son, Benjamin Netanyahu, served as Israel's prime minister from 1996 to 1999 and from 2009 to 2021.

The second person, Ruben Bloom, is based on Harold Bloom. In 2018, Cohen received an email from Harold Bloom, who rushed to Connecticut to visit Harold Bloom. Cohen asked, "Will there be a future for criticism?" Bloom replied, "Criticism now simply abandons politics, whatever the great voice in our hearts, it seems to be about perception and knowledge alone." Bloom said to him, "I feel as if we were old acquaintances. In 2019, Bloom passed away. The deaths of Saul Bellow, Philip Ross, and Harold Bloom represent both the demise of an older generation of Jews and the demise of demonized liberalism. Bloom is different from Benzion. Bloom was happy to be American, free to be outside of history.

In 1962, Bentzion Netanyahu and Ruben Bloom, or Harold Bloom, met at the fictional Corbyn College, and Benzione's visit caused ripples in Ruben's life. Ruben was the only Jewish scholar at Corbyn College, and his study of taxation, taxation, and Jewish history formed a certain subtle intertext. "You, Ruben Bloom, have withdrawn from the stage of history, and you are over: in just a generation or two, the memory of your Jews will be gone." Benzion questioned Ruben. For American Jews, Israel is sometimes portrayed as a superhero, encompassing origins, great battles, metaphors, and so on. Cohen is looking forward to deconstructing the superhero and building a new vision to write his own story about The Magneto of Israel.

From 2001 to 2006, Cohen lived in Eastern Europe, where he spent part of his time as a European correspondent for the Forward Daily, completing two related articles a month. He almost forced himself away from his peers, away from a certain industry, and his footprints spread across Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and other countries. More often, Cohen writes, his writing gets better and better, and life gets worse and worse, like a loser. At that time, the European Union had not yet risen, everything was not as expensive as it is today, people were drunk, and Israelis accused each other of being Mossad. Exhausted from a long trip, Cohen transferred to the literary critic of the Forward Daily with the help of Alana Newhouse. For a long time, Cohen was ashamed that he couldn't focus on fiction and use nonfiction. Cohen also co-authored Edward Snowden's memoir, Permanent Record. Currently, Cohen lives in Brooklyn and Manhattan, New York.

Intellectual detective Ji Weiran

A few days ago, Ji Weiran published an anthology of plays "Some Kind of Recognition - Five Plays (2017-2020)". The book contains five new dramas by Ji Weiran, namely "The Story of Anna and Qi", "The Whole Man King: The New Editor Qiu Yishe", "Cloakroom", and "Goodbye. Cabaret Show", "Stage in the Rain". The five plays have been produced by the Creative Society, Jinzhi Performing Society, Fujian People's Art Theatre, Story Factory, Chunmei Opera Troupe & Jinzhi Performing Company. Ji Weiran's plays use fractured language to establish the literary nature of the text, leaving a record of the development of contemporary living language in recent decades, as well as the core values of desire and redemption in collective memory.

"Mahjong needs to be designed, the whole picture is taken into account, and so is creation"

Ji Weiran

Around the same time, Ji Weiran won the Reasoning Award for Translated Novels and the Malta Eagle Award for the Japanese translation of his novel "Private Detective", both of which are the most important awards in the Japanese reasoning community (detective fiction). Since its publication, Private Investigator has sold the rights to many places. According to Sado Mori's statistics, from 2014 to 2020, BFT (Books From Taiwan) has selected 342 books, 9 of which are authorized in more than 5 languages, and "Private Detective" is listed among them, surpassing "Private Detective" are "Crocodile Handbook", "Enemy Sakura", "Bicycle Theft", "Sahara Years" and "13.67".

More than a decade ago, in order to resist the bottleneck of writing, Ji Weiran would start from home almost every day to walk around, one day he walked to six ploughs, an unfinished house ghostly, Ji Weiran began to fantasize about crime stories playing out here. The background of the story is set in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when society changed drastically, cases occurred frequently, and the system of handling cases by DNA and other technologies was not yet fully established, and the Bai Xiaoyan murder case and the Yiqing project occurred in this period.

The protagonist Wu Cheng, who once taught drama at a university, decided to resign from the teaching position due to the meaninglessness of life, faded into a marriage that existed in name only, sold his new apartment, stood on Wolong Street, and became a private detective, before which he did not have any police background. Wu Cheng first cracked a malpractice case of employees of the Health Insurance Bureau, and then became involved in a serial murder case, and the murderer Su Hongzhi disguised himself as Wu Cheng and committed a crime to save Wu Cheng's soul. Wu Cheng's mental condition is taken from The Real Experience of Ji Weiran, who was suddenly diagnosed with a variety of psychological disorders such as paranoia, anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and insomnia at the age of 19. One night he woke up from a dream and found himself "changing his eyes", similar to the "private eyes" in "Private Detective", "The private eyes not only let me see things clearly, but at the same time allowed me to withdraw further from the state of withdrawal, to examine my alienation from the eyes of an outsider." Therefore, I have always been in the dual mind of identification and doubt about my own perceptions, about people, about things, about appearances, about essence, and so on. One moment I thought I saw the truth, the next second I suspected myself insane. ”

In 1997, Ji Weiran's famous play "Night Night Night Hemp" was staged in the New Stage Small Theater. Peter, mountain pig, poet, Mark, four middle-aged men in their early forties gather on the second floor of Peter's apartment, night and night in the sound of mahjong, life's curses are splashed, swear words, slang, buzzwords pierced in between: Peter has a successful career but lingers in the gentle countryside all day; The mountain pig smashes the taxi he drives; The poet is unemployed and unmarried cynical; Mark was powerless to teach at the university. The mountain pig's hateful words explain the theme of the play, "I only felt that Leng Bo was still alive when I pounded the car." ”

"Mahjong needs to be designed and taken into account, and so does creation. Everyone's creation is a kind of design, the design is good and bad, smart and not smart, often reflecting people's personality and values. People often say 'cards look at human nature', from playing mahjong can see a person's arrangement and views on life, but what I am writing is 'Then what kind of cards do you play?' It was about twenty years later that Ji Weiran made it clear that "art can only propose what if (if... What will happen? )”。

Ji Weiran was born in 1954, the same age as Lai Shengchuan, a native of Keelung, Taiwan. At the end of the 1970s, Ji Weiran began to write plays while studying at Fu Jen University, and soon became famous for "Yugong Moving Mountains", and later was selected for the first Taipei City Drama Season on behalf of the drama clubs of colleges and universities. In the 1980s, Ji Weiran studied drama at the University of Kansas and the University of Iowa. Since 1997, Ji Weiran and his friends have founded the Creative Society Theater Troupe, during which they have launched dramas such as "Night Night Night Hemp", "One Bed for Four People Sleeping", "Utopia Ltd." and so on. Ji Weiran has taught at several universities and was the head of the Department of Drama at National Taiwan University, but is now retired.

Antonella Anneda with italian dialects and islands

Recently, the Italian poet Antonella Anedda published a new essay, Geografie. Annéda is hailed as one of Italy's best living writers, and together with Valerio Magrelli, she is a jewel of Italian poetry. Anneda's work has been included in The White Necklace series by Iodi Publishing, which also includes contemporary classics such as Mario Luzi, Patrizia Cavalli, Jan Wagner and others.

"Mahjong needs to be designed, the whole picture is taken into account, and so is creation"

Antonella Anneda

Geography draws a geography across Mongolia, Japan, and Islands from an anti-humancentric perspective. The book continues Anneda's focus on geography, a subject expressed in the prose collection Isolatria and in many of Anneda's poems. Annéda's family comes from Sardinia and she sometimes spends summers in the Maddalena Archipelago. Sardinia and the Maddalena Archipelago, with its barren landscape and sparse vegetation, may be due to the rule and control of the Sava family since the eighteenth century. The interior is surrounded by forests and mountains, and the ocean exists in historical faults and fluctuations. The loneliness of the landscape is ancient, and it has nothing to do with the mission of the hermit and nothing to do with religion. Perhaps this is also related to Italian traditions, such as in the Italian word, tempo represents both weather and time.

Anneda also absorbed the many dialects and folk music of Italy. In terms of dialects are Sardinian Laugoudoro dialect, Alghero Catalan, Corsican French mixed with La Maddalena dialect; She wrote many poems in the Laugudoro dialect. In terms of folk music are Sardinian multi-voice folk songs, etc. Anneda's poetry absorbed it, and she expanded it, expanding her scope to jazz and North African music. Annéda has been looking for music in poetry, but not in the traditional form of rhythm, but in music that connects man and nature, such as the noise of cars driving on asphalt roads late at night, the sound of tapping metal plates.

"I write poetry to augment reality and also to destroy it. ...... Poetry makes reality a reality. My joy stems from this concentration, where I can capture sound and light. I would like to call myself the poet who 'I have witnessed', as Elizabeth Bishop wrote of herself, and the poet who is 'I have heard'. I am a rabbit with mathematical thinking. Annéda previously said in response to the Paris Review. In addition, Anneda's poems often involve the kitchen, and she once wrote in a poem, "The kitchen is a cape." ”

Nella Anneda studied at the University of Rome I, where she studied modern Italian literature and modern art. Prior to that, she studied Latin and Greek at the Classical High School. In 2017, she received her PhD from oxford university, and her doctoral dissertation, "Rats, Plants and Worms: Leopardi and Darwin's Grandsons," explains Leopardi's poetics and the anti-humancentric position of poetry itself in contrasts and reflections between Giacomo Leopardi and Erasmus Darwin and Charles Darwin's grandchildren.
